Warm Up
Project five short English sentences on the Smart Board that include the new Chapter 8A
vocabulary and use the stem-changing verbs decir, pedir, and servir. Have students
translate the sentences into Spanish. Then have volunteers come forward and write their
translation on the board. Review these verbs as a class if necessary.
¿Eres Tú María?
Have student follow along on pages 444-445 of the textbook as they watch the next
episode of the videomisterio. After watching the episode, have students work with their
assigned partner to answer the ¿Comprendes? questions. Then have students volunteer to
share their responses with the class.
Saber and Conocer
As a class, read aloud the Gramática box on page 460 of the textbook as it introduces
saber and conocer. Then have the class repeat the correct pronunciation of each verb in
the various conjugated forms. To review, watch the GramActiva video.
Saber and Conocer Team Competition
Divide the class into four teams and have students sit in a line with their group. Give each
group a dry-erase marker and mini whiteboard. Students from each team will take turns
conjugating saber and conocer and translating sentences that use either of these verbs.
However, no one on the team can help the student whose turn it is to conjugate or
translate. This will be a race; the first team to have the correct answer gets a point. The
winning team gets excused from tonight’s homework assignment.
Homework
Have students prepare a ten-question quiz that focuses on saber and conocer and the
stem-changing verbs decir, pedir, and servir. The correct answers should be on a separate
sheet of paper.
