Raising the Bar
3-day Seminar with Steve and Jen White
Dates: May 29th to 31st, 2015
Location: Two Paws Up!, Calgary, AB
Description
This 3-day, information-packed workshop will turn training orthodoxy on its head! Steve and Jen are
dynamic and knowledgeable trainers and presenters. This workshop will be valuable to anyone who
trains dogs. The concepts discussed will be applicable to trainers who work with pet dog owners, people
who enjoy working with their own dogs, and people who work with dogs and people for specific purposes
(for example, search and rescue, therapy work, nose work, agility, etc.). The following points will be
covered in depth:
 How to reach the next level of performance, regardless of your, or your dog’s, skill level or
discipline.
 Why peak performance is not so much about how many behaviours a dog can do, nearly as
much as it’s about how well it truly knows the behaviours it can do.
 The value of systematically building fluency and generalization through six dimensions…and
where most trainers go wrong right from the start.
 Why, if you’re not using video to analyze training, you’re probably flying without a compass.
 How to leverage the power of training teams to see performance possibilities you never knew
existed.
 Why "thin-slicing" skills are an absolute must to make good training decisions on-the-fly.
 When it’s okay to break the “rules”. About Steve
In his 40th year of a K9-centered law enforcement career Steve White is
the only person to have served as a handler, trainer, and supervisor for
the Seattle Police Canine Unit. Accredited as a Master Trainer in 1993
by the Washington State Police Canine Association, Steve is also a
past Executive Board Member of that body. He served as Vice
President of the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, and
is a consultant and instructor for the K9 Academy for Law Enforcement.
Steve has instructed at seminars in the U.S., Australia, Belgium,
Canada, China, Finland, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, and the
United Kingdom. He has served as a primary instructor for Karen
Pryor's ClickerExpo and the Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training
and Behavior. His articles have appeared in police K-9 and dog training
publications in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Finland, and Japan. He
specializes in teaching behavior modification, tracking, and scent work
through the use of positive reinforcement-based operant conditioning.
He provides consultation and training to K-9 units on administrative and
legal issues, and has been recognized as an expert witness by
Washington and Federal courts in Police K-9 and dog behavior matters.
About Jen
Becoming a professional all-species animal behavior consultant
in 1987, Jennifer White combined a degree in psychology with
her love of animals, and in over two and a half decades has been
lucky enough to work around the globe with many species,
including birds, reptiles, horses, exotics, & marine mammals in a
variety of environments with some of the industry’s greatest
behavior minds. Jen joined forces with husband Steve White in
2003, opened a horse and dog training facility in Seattle, WA;
together this dynamic duo travels the world to share the latest
training solutions for animal behavior challenges and highly
reliable real-world applications at international conferences and
through workshops and seminars.
