Common Rules and Regulations for All International Houses
Below are the uniform rules and regulations for all Waseda University dormitories made available to
international students. In addition to these rules, each dormitory will have its specific rules. When
moving into any international house, the resident must strictly observe the rules and regulations given
below. When these rules and regulations are neglected, Waseda University and/or NASIC (National
Students Information Center) may order the resident to leave the dormitory.
[TENANTS]
Residence in the Waseda University international student houses is limited to those stated in the
Tenants’ Contract, and occupancy by any other persons is absolutely forbidden.
[DURATION OF RESIDENCE]
Resident occupancy will be during the period stated in the dormitory assignment document delivered
to you before your arrival to Japan. As a rule, occupants may not extend their period of residence.
[MOVING (BETWEEN DORMITORIES OR ROOMS)]
As a rule, residents may not move or exchange from one dormitory to another, as well as from one
room to another within a dormitory.
[RENT]
Residents must pay the appropriate monthly rent by the appointed date every month without fail. All
rent must be paid in cash; credit cards are not accepted. If you wish to pay by automatic withdrawal
from your bank account, please contact your dormitory manager or NASIC. In cases where it is not
possible to pay the rent by the appointed date, the resident should contact NASIC or the dormitory
manager and inform them when the rent will be paid. Please be careful for the residents are asked to
leave the dormitory when the rent is overdue for 3 months.
[CONTACT IN CASE OF LONG TERM ABSENCE]
In case the resident is absent from the dormitory room for 2 weeks or more, he/she MUST submit a
Notice of Long-Term Absence to the NASIC before departure, specifying the destination and length
of absence.
※Residents will have to pay the full amount of the dorm fee even during absences.
[LEAVING THE DORMITORY]
When leaving the dormitory the resident must submit a Notice on Checking Out from a Waseda
University International Student Dormitory to NASIC one month before the expected departure date
and inform NASIC of the correct departure date. If you don’t report the date to NASIC and the
dormitory manager before the deadline, we will charge penalty fee.
*Any changes or re-submitting the Notice after submitting the Notice once, WILL NOT BE
ACCEPTED.
[PROHIBITED BEHAVIOR]
1. Allowing persons other than the resident to stay in the dormitory room
(Even relatives are not allowed to stay at the dorm.)

2. Inviting non-residents to the dormitory and letting them use the common facilities (kitchen, lobby,
laundry, etc.)
3. Placing private belongings and occupying space in the lobby, hallways, etc.
4. Making multiple copies of the room key
5. Personal possession and exclusive use of shared property
6. Keeping pets in the dormitory room
7. Sleeping in the lobby
8. Other activities prohibited by the respective dormitories of Waseda University
9. Do not take others’ belongings from common areas such as the refrigerator
10. Having a party in the dormitory without permission
11. Do not bother your neighbors by making noise around the dormitory, especially at night.
[FORCED REMOVAL]
Waseda University and/or NASIC may order residents to leave the dormitory when any of the
following occurs.
1. When the resident neglects paying rent (for 3 months)
2. When the resident causes serious disturbances in the dormitory and surrounding areas
3. Subletting the room to others
4. When the resident does not respect the above-mentioned rules and rules pertaining to each
individual dormitory
5. When the resident does not follow directions given by Waseda University, the dormitory manager
and NASIC.
[OTHERS]
1. Please keep articles of value in a safe place under your own responsibility.
(The university will not take responsibility for any lost articles.)
2. Do not use drugs in Japan. It is illegal under Japanese law.
3. Do not carry cutters and knives with you.
4. In order to prevent bicycle theft, you are required to register your bicycles.
(even second hand ones)
5. You must separate garbage with your own responsibility.
6. Please handle your room equipments with care. In all cases you break any equipments
in your room, you must pay a repairing fee.
7. When things like a natural disaster occur, we will be contacting you to make
sure that you are okay. This includes exchange students. As soon as you get your
mobile phone, please give your phone number to NASIC as an emergency
contact number. This information will only be used for emergencies.
8. When you leave the dormitory for a while without any notification and we cannot
contact you, we may dispose your belongings.
9. Do not access to illegal site and download illegal data.
