Dear Parents and Carers
Solar Eclipse – 20th March 2015
The school will be watching the Solar Eclipse will be taking place on Friday 20th March, which will be a
partial eclipse as seen from the UK. The eclipse will be up to 88% darkness from Bedford, with
maximum eclipse occurring at approx. 9:31am local time.
Approx. timeline of events during eclipse –
8:25am – Partial Eclipse begins
9:31am – Maximum Eclipse
10:41am – Partial Eclipse ends.
We would like as many children as possible to experience this event and have obtained some special
glasses for the children to view the eclipse safely, which the PTA has very kindly agreed to pay for.
Please feel free to join us on the playground first thing in the morning.
However you will need to provide your own glasses, not forgetting any younger children you may have
with you.
Warning DO NOT look at the Sun either with the unaided eye, any optical aid or camera/phone,
use only the safe eclipse viewers or projection methods.

We do need to ask your permission for the children to take part , if you have not returned the
permission form, please do first thing Friday morning. Please complete the return slip in the
document below and return it to the school office.
