The following training courses are being offered throughout YCS during December 2011. These training courses are open to all interested staff unless otherwise specified. Pre-Registration is mandatory. The goal of Agency Orientation is to provide new employees and volunteers an overview of the agency, review the YCS Mission, review programs and services provided for children and their families throughout the agency. Instructors will review skills necessary to perform Adult /Pediatric CPR and defibrillator training for adults. Participants will then practice and demonstrate these techniques for the course instructor. The afternoon session will focus on Basic First Aid. Upon successful completion participants will receive certification cards. Learning Objectives: At the end of this training, participants will be able to: Explain the importance of universal precautions Recognize the warning signs, symptoms and treatment for heart attack, and stroke. Recognize the warning signs, symptoms and treatment for sudden cardiac arrest. List the emergency action steps: Assess, Alert, Attend to the ABCDs. Describe how to position the victim for CPR. Included in this training are techniques for personal safety and participative study of crisis prevention methods. At the end of this training, learners will be able to: Provide for the care. Welfare, safety and security of all involved in a crisis situation Identify the 4 stages of the Crisis Development Model and the appropriate staff response. Identify and demonstrate verbal techniques to de-escalate behavior Demonstrate physical intervention techniques when necessary as a last resort due to an individual’s dangerous behavior. Verbal and Physical Interventions will be demonstrated for participants. Participants will then practice and demonstrate these techniques for Handle with Care Instructors. Please dress comfortably (athletic wear preferred). At the end of this training learners will be able to: Describe how tension contributes to inappropriate behavior in children Identify responses that indicate tension levels are rising Understand and demonstrate verbal intervention skills Understand and demonstrate physical intervention skills when it is necessary to intervene physically Understand how to combine and demonstrate verbal and physical intervention skills Understand and demonstrate how to and when to withdraw an intervention technique.
