Lynch APUSG Analyzing a Supreme Court Decision Assignment Directions: Each student will be assigned a Supreme Court case that has significant value in regards to the Advanced Placement Test in May Each case will be presented to the class in the following format: 1. Title and Citation: This includes the name of the litigants and where the case was decided 2. Level or Type of Court: It must be specified where the case was decided and how it got there (for our purposes it will always end in the Supreme Court) 3. Facts about the Case: A brief history surrounding the case 4. Issue: An in-depth discussion of the issue that the cases addresses a. An example of this would be discussing Presidential Powers and the public if you were analyzing Clinton v. Jones 5. Holding: What was the Court’s decision and why? 6. Legal Doctrine: How does this decision change American Politics and Government 7. Significance: A concise statement about the implications of the decision (This is where you get to analyze) Each portion of this assignment is worth 15 Points A 5 minute presentation will be worth 45 points: o Graded on the following: 20 for being prepared on the proper date 20 for relaying the information in a concise and direct manner 5 for adhering to the 5 minute time rule You will be required to give one hand-out to each class member during your presentation (If there is a monetary problem see me no later than one week before your assigned date) This Assignment is worth a total of 150 points Case: Due Date:
