The program for Day Care is in the Baltimore City Health Department Ordinance and Regulations Governing Day Nurseries. The program for school-age children includes: A. B. C. Access to creative experiences Occasions to explore the community, to take trips, and to participate in appropriate community activities. Opportunity for children to take responsibility consistent with their ages for planning and carrying out their own activities. Children are introduced to activities designed to help build a foundation for the necessary readiness skills in more structured cognitive areas. Oral language development is the primary vehicle for learning. Exploratory time is an essential part of each day. Identified areas such as art, block building, housekeeping, library, water/sand play, and manipulative activities enable children to grow and learn to: work cooperatively with adults and other children think for themselves create with many types of materials ask questions and solve problems make decisions and observe the results understand their own feelings and respond to the feelings of others. The day begins at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m. Breakfast and lunch are served and a snack is provided after naptime. For children who have food allergies we encourage that they bring their meals. Under the direction of our caring experienced staff, children enjoy learning to learn. All paperwork, registration fee and any payments due must be turned into the school Office before child is able to start school. For parents who receive assistance from DSS for tuition, please note that you are fully responsible for all monthly payments until assistance has been received. Once received, then you are responsible for any co-payments by the 1st of each month. Additionally, if for any reason we stop receiving payments from DSS, then note that you are responsible to make up any difference that is owed. Ultimately, you are responsible for any payments that are not received. Report cards, test scores, and transfer records will be withheld until delinquent accounts are brought current. Students that are not in the before and aftercare program who are dropped off before 8:00 a.m. or is not picked up by 3:30 p.m. will have to pay $5.00 for each service every time they are in these programs. The Office must be contacted in advanced if you need these services on an infrequent basis. Tuition rates have not gone up this year. You still have the choice to make payments in one of three ways: monthly, quarterly, or annually. Please note that payments are not due between the first and the fifth. They are actually due on the 1st of the month. You only receive a five day grace period because sometimes the 1st is on a weekend. If payment is received after the 5th you will be charged a $25.00 late payment fee. If payment must be late, it is your responsibility to inform the Office with a letter requesting an extension. However, a late fee will still apply. Returned checks must be honored in the form of cash or money order and remainder payments cannot be made in the form of a check. A $30.00 overdraft fee will be applied. CCL will not be held responsible for any loss tuition payments or any money sent by your child or put in the book bag. We would like to make you aware of the things that will be going on this year and what we hope you will become involved in. Parents also have the option of a monthly plan of ten (10) equal payments due on the first of each month beginning August 1st. All paperwork along with registration fees must be turned into the school Office before student is admitted to school. Fees are accepted in the form of cash, check, or money order. (Personal checks will not be accepted after May 1st.) Make checks or money orders payable to the Center for Creative Learning (CCL). Please indicate child’s name on the face of check or money order. Payments of any kind must be turned into the Office in appropriate envelope and labeled. The school staff will not be held responsible for the loss of money sent by students or put in book bags. Tuition payments are actually due the 1st of the month. However, there is a five-day grace period. A late fee in the amount of $25.00 will be assessed if payment is received after the 5th of the month. After the 9th, suspension letters will be sent home. Students can return to school after payments are current. A fee of $30.00 will be assessed on all returned checks and remaining payments must be made in the form of cash or money order. For parents who receive assistance for tuition, please note that you are fully responsible for payments if assistance does not come through or if problems arise with payment. Additionally, you are responsible for all full monthly payments until assistance has been received. Once assistance as been received, then you are responsible to pay for any co-payments by the 1st of each month. If there is a balance at the end of the year, please note that you are responsible to make up any difference. After the 5th of the month, accounts become delinquent and suspension letters are sent home. Once accounts are current, the student can return to school. Report cards, test scores, and transfer records will be withheld until delinquent accounts are brought current. TUITION REFUND POLICY No reduction or remission of fees will be made for absences, snow days, holidays, personal vacations, or for dismissal. Refund entitlement is forfeited in the event of suspension or expulsion from the school. No refunds are granted after the sixth (6th) week of school. SCHOOL REGULATIONS AND PROCEDURES The Center for Creative Learning aims to aid in the development of the child bodily, mentally, emotionally and spiritually through creative learning experiences conducted by our capable staff. Our staff can function most efficiently and effectively when they devote their full efforts to the task of instructing. It is critical that parents schedule appointments with the teacher. Please do not try and meet with the teacher during regular school hours. Unless, a time has been arranged between the two. We must insist that children obey teaching staff. Parents, please instruct your children to obey the teachers. If a child should prove unmanageable or not follow the rules, the parents will be notified and a conference arranged. Rules: 1. Comes to school regularly and on time 2. Brings pens and/or pencils, notebook and all equipment needed to function in school each day. 3. Is prepared each day 4. Does all homework 5. Accepts responsibility 6. Is considerate of others 7. Displays self-control 8. Respects authority 9. Knows and follows school rules and regulations 10. Uses proper cafeteria etiquette during meal times 11. Is interested in his/her mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual growth and development 12. Participates in school activities. 13. HOURS OF OPERATION The building will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. for students who are not in the Before and Extended (After Care) Day Program. Parents are expected to pick up or make arrangements for the pick up of their child/children by 3:30 p.m. Children are to be picked up from the classroom. If children are dropped off before 8:00 a.m. or are not picked up by 3:30 p.m. then they will be in Before or Aftercare and parent is responsible for payment. This does not apply to students who are in the 2-3 Year Old Classes or Pre-K4. Breakfast is available for all students. Breakfast is from 8:00 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. Children must be signed in and out everyday by an authorized adult. Children are allowed to leave the school with persons other than their parents only with specific written request by the parents and with proper identification. The instructional day is 8:30 – 3:00 p.m. Before School Care is 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. The Extended Day (After Care) is 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Students not participating in the Extended Day (After Care) must be picked up by 3:30 p.m. Parents and children are not permitted in the building before 7:00 a.m. EARLY DISMISSAL If a student must leave school before the end of the day, a written note from the parent or guardian must be brought to school on the day of dismissal. The note will give a reason for dismissal, the time to leave, and a contact number for verification. For inclement weather or emergency, please check the appropriate radio and T.V. stations (WBAL, Channel 11 and 1090 A.M.) Or you can call the school and a message will indicate times for dismissal or arrival. ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY Daily attendance and being on time are necessary for a student to achieve the maximum from the education program at CCL. On the rare occasion when a absence cannot be avoided, a written note is required on the day the student returns. The student is expected to make up work missed or requested by the teacher. A student arriving after 8:35 a.m. is considered late. Late students must have a written note from a parent. Lateness of more than 5 times in a quarter will result in parents being notified and a conference requested. Students must be in school no later than 9:00 a.m. unless prior knowledge is given for a doctor’s appointment and a slip from the doctor should be given upon returning to school. HOMEWORK Homework is a vital part of our instructional program. Missed homework assignments will be reported to parents. The third (3rd) incident of missed work in any one subject will result in a teacher/parent conference. CORRECT DRESS Uniforms are mandatory for ALL students. Uniforms must be purchased from Super Kids, Inc. at Security Mall to ensure uniformity. Girls are to wear the checkered jumpers and Peter Pan blouses (with school logo), navy blue or white tights or socks (short or knee hi) and navy blue Mary Jane shoes or navy blue and white saddle shoes. Boys are to wear navy blue uniform pants, white dress shirts (with school logo), navy blue ties and black shoes with rubber soles. (Tennis shoes are strictly for physical education only). Navy blue cardigans/sweaters (with school logo) can be worn for cold days. Boys also have the option of wearing the navy blue vest (with school logo). The physical education uniform is a fleece navy blue sweat suit for fall/winter, white polo shirt, navy blue shorts/skorts for spring/summer and white socks and white tennis shoes all of the time. Please label all items. If for any reason your child does not have his/her uniform for a particular day, please call the school in advanced. For students in 2/3 year old class or Pre-4, a change of clothes must be left at the school in the event of an emergency. Please leave a complete set of gym clothes also underclothes, socks and tennis shoes. Accessories – Uniformity in dress is the focus for all students. No additional colors, logos, designs or the like. Girls are allowed to wear small earrings. Other accessories are a distraction and are easily lost. However, accessories are allowed if teacher request them for school programs. Students are also to be in full uniform for field trips, unless otherwise noted. STUDENTS THAT ARE NOT DRESSED IN SCHOOL UNIFORM WILL BE SENT HOME. CANDY, GUM, CARDS, RADIOS, ELECTRONIC GAMES, MAGAZINES, ETC. Since the primary task of students at the Center for Creative Learning is to learn, any distractions to the learning process are to be kept out of the school. Students may not bring gum or candy to school. Radios, electronic games, magazines, videos, etc. brought to school will have the item taken by a staff person and returned when a parent comes for it. Unless the class is having show & tell. Cards and other games are not to be played during normal school days unless it is a part of the instructional day. DEVOTIONS AND ASSEMBLY PROCEDURES Daily Devotions are held in the auditorium. A variety of entertaining and culturally enriching assembly programs are given throughout the year. Special programs commemorating specific holidays or historical events will be given in an assembly. Though the themes are not always directly biblical in nature, they will be Christian in atmosphere and purpose. All students are to promote the unity of the school. a. Enter auditorium quickly with their teacher, sit in assigned seats, and remain quiet until program starts. b. Give full attention to the speaker and/or other performers. c. Show appreciation for the program by applauding. d. Listen at the close of the program for directions concerning dismissal. CAFETERIA The lunch period is an opportunity for students to be more relaxed but maintain an atmosphere of family and spiritual development. Students will enter and leave the cafeteria only with their classes. Students are to remain seated while eating. There is to be no running or throwing food, trash, etc. Students who do not follow cafeteria rules will be disciplined. Meals are provided daily. However, students with special needs, food allergies or if something is served that the student does not care for, students are welcome to bring their meal. Substitute meals are not provided by the school. DISCIPLINARY REMOVAL AND/OR SUSPENSION Disciplinary removal or suspension will result from any of the following: A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. Destruction of school property Interruption of the instructional program Stealing Failure to cooperate with school personnel and regulations Disrespectful conduct Extraction Assault on staff or student Abusive language ACCIDENTS AND ILLNESS Students will not be admitted to school if they are sick. If your child becomes sick and/or runs an elevated temperature during the school day, you will be notified by the teacher or staff person for pick-up. In case of a serious injury while the child is in the Center, first aid will be administered by a Red Cross trained person. The child will be as comfortable as possible and a parent will be contacted. In a life-threatening situation, the rescue squad will be called. As a part of this agreement, parents agree that in the event of an emergency, the Center has permission to secure medical aid for enrolled children. All medical expenses, if any, are the responsibility of the parent/guardian. If for any reason your child will not be able to attend school for a day, notify the office and advise us when you anticipate his/her return. Re-admission to class after the child has had a communicable disease or serious illness will be made only when a physician signed medical certificate is presented. FACILITY Our school is located on 22 plus rolling acres. Children are afforded a wide-open country-rural atmosphere in an urban setting. Playtime and/or physical education become a continuous learning experience in which God-given elements of nature are blended with the man-made apparatus to build strong bodies and healthy attitudes and relationships. Such spacious facilities enhance our staff’s ability to work effectively in the task of developing your child. CONFERENCES From time to time you may wish to discuss your child’s progress with the teacher and/or Director. Please be certain to call and establish an appointment with the teacher and/or principal in advance. We cannot guarantee that you will be able to meet with the teacher if prior notification and arrangements are not made. Please do not try to engage teachers in conferences during normal instruction hours. Your cooperation in this area is appreciated. LOST AND FOUND Lost and found articles are taken to the School Office. “Lost and found” articles that are not claimed after a month will be disposed of. EMERGENCY CLOSING/INCLEMENT WEATHER In the event schools are closed for emergencies or inclement weather, enough days are built into the year that we will be able to meet the guidelines of the State without having to extend the calendar year. For inclement weather or emergency announcements, please listen to the appropriate T.V. and radio station. (WBAL, Channel 11; WBAL – 1090 A.M.) You can also call the school and listen for announcement if school is closed or will be closing early. It is the parent’s responsibility to check to see if school is closed or will be closing early during inclement weather. Please do not wait to hear from the school. For the safety of everyone, please pick up your child as soon as you are made aware of early closing. CENTER FOR CREATIVE LEARNING Policy on Custodial Parents It is the policy of the Center for Creative Learning to honor the request of the custodial parent when it is stated in writing that the noncustodial parent(s) is denied access to the child at school. Custodial parent refers to the parent who registers the child and lives with the child that attends the school. This policy can be rescinded only in writing by the custodial parent or by court orders. The purpose of this policy is to ensure the safety and well being of our students. POLICY ON CHILD ABUSE All employees of the Center for Creative Learning will receive information about the Child Abuse and Neglect Policy at the first faculty meeting at the beginning of the school year. A copy of Maryland’s Law and Who Must Report suspected cases of child physical, sexual abuse or neglect is included. Each employee is expected to report any said abuse to the Administration. Who Must Report Family Law Article 5-704, 5-705 Maryland law requires that every health practitioner, Educator, human services worker or law enforcement officer who has reason to believe that a child has been subjected to physical abuse or sexual abuse shall immediately report to the local Department of Social Services or appropriate law enforcement agency. The report, in both oral and written form, shall be made as soon as reasonably possible, but in any case the written report must be made within 48 hours of the suspicion of possible abuse to the local Department of Social Services and the local State’s Attorney. Maryland law also requires that every health practitioner, educator, human services worker or law enforcement officer who has reason to believe that a child has been subjected to neglect shall immediately report to the local Department of Social Services. The report, in both oral and written form, shall be made as soon as reasonably possible, but in any case the written report must be made within 48 hours of the suspicion of possible neglect to the local Department of Social Services. Further, any person other than a health practitioner, educator, social worker, or law enforcement officer, including any other employee of the local school system who has reason to believe that a child has been subjected to physical abuse to the local Department of Social Services or the appropriate law enforcement agency as prescribed in the above paragraph.
