FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Daren A.C. Carollo 415-871-7523, daren@ccct.org Contra Costa Civic Theatre Announces 2013-14 Season: Stories Rich with Family Relationships and the Art of Language Contra Costa Civic Theatre, CCCT, is proud to announce its 54th season. “Theatre, for me, is all about the sharing of stories in all of their forms, “ says Artistic Director Marilyn Langbehn. “With the new season, my hope is that the more we tell each other the stories that matter, the stories that help provide the context for our lives, the more fully human we become.” Adds Managing Director Daren A.C. Carollo, “We are excited to present five CCCT debuts including two musicals that will have you laughing from start to finish and three high-energy plays.” CCCT opens its 2013-14 season in September with The Drowsy Chaperone, book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. Spend a raucous evening in the home of an avid musical theater fan sharing his favorite old gem— The Drowsy Chaperone—whose cast includes a Broadway star, an oil tycoon, a ditzy chorus girl, a Latin lover, an aviatrix, a couple of gangsters, and (of course) a tipsy chaperone. This Tony award-winning “show within a show” has all the charm of a 1920s classic musical, with great songs and stunning dance numbers, tinted with the winking wit of the modern age. In time for the holiday season, CCCT presents the Bay Area premiere of A Child’s Christmas in Wales, adapted by Jeremy Brooks and Adrian Mitchell from the classic text by Dylan Thomas. Holiday memories come magically to life in this adaptation of poet Dylan Thomas’ lyrical boyhood reverie. Featuring various styles of puppets interacting with human characters on stage, A Child’s Christmas in Wales allows the child in all of us to experience the larger-thanlife and mystical creatures of Thomas’ imagination. Christmas carols both familiar and new provide the musical setting for this warm and enchanting family treasure. The CCCT season continues in January, 2014, with The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abriged)(revised), by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield. Lovers of Shakespeare as well as those who fear the Bard or find his works to be stodgy will have their sides split with laughter as three actors attempt to perform all of Shakespeare’s works — yes, all — in two hours of condensed hilarity. Even the audience gets in on the act, so no two performances of this popular favorite are ever alike. The play even boasts a breakneck version of Hamlet—43 seconds! Tracy Letts' August: Osage County, an East Bay premiere, follows in April, 2014. When the wealthy patriarch in this Pulitzer prize-winning dark comedy disappears, his three adult daughters and their families converge on home turf. The situation is ripe for the dredging up of sibling rivalries, opposing religious views, old love affairs, questions of parentage, and— that great splitter of families—assumptions about inheritance, with hilarious and heartbreaking results. The CCCT 2013-14 season concludes with the June, 2014 Bay Area premiere of a blockbuster musical whose title will be announced in September, 2013. A hot ticket on Broadway in the 2010-11 season, this musical will be one of the fastest to travel from Broadway to the CCCT stage. CCCT's 2012-13 season concludes this summer with La Cage aux Folles, by Harvey Fierstein, with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman. This gem of a musical has won the Tony award for Best Musical three times; for its original production and for both of its revivals on Broadway. La Cage aux Folles runs June 21 through July 21. All performances take place at CCCT's intimate and fully accessible theatre in the Flynn building located at 951 Pomona Avenue in El Cerrito. Free parking is provided in the adjoining lot. Season tickets are on sale now and may be purchased online at www.ccct.org or by phone at 510-524-9132. Single tickets will go on sale August 1.
