Speaking
Task 1
Look at the pictures on page 79 and list words or phrases about them. Then share your
work with others.(10 minutes)
Objective: Ss develop a vocabulary list suited to the theme.

Task2
Use the follow sentence patterns and the words or phrases from task 1 to describe the
pictures on page 79.

Objective: Ss can use the vocabulary from Task 1 and the sentence patterns outlined
for Task 2 to create sentences. (time: 10 minutes)
Steps
Ss read and do Speaking Task 2. Give examples if needed.
Ss work in small groups and share their sentences. For example, in pair work, one
student picks one word or phrase from the vocabulary list, and the other makes the
sentence.
Task 3
Work in pairs. Take turns asking your partner the following questions and make notes.
Organize your notes and report to the class using the given paragraph as a model.
Objective: Ss are able to ask and answer questions about entertainment and give a
report based on the answers give to the questions. (time: 10 minutes)
Have you ever thought of the relationship between your living habits and your health?
Do you have any habits that are considered harmful to your health?
What should we do to stay healthy?
Steps:
Ss read Speaking Task 3.
Ss take 5 minutes to interview each other using the given questions or their own.

Ss prepare an oral report using their partners’ answers and the given model.

If Ss’ English proficiency is higher than the garget level, skip this task and organize a
less-controlled free talk to brainstorm ideas about the pictures.
Reading A
Task 1
Give brief answers to the following questions. Then ask your partner about his/her
answers and take notes.
Objective: Ss are prepared to deal with the topic.
Do you think it possible for a human being to live for a thousand years?
What could be done to help people live longer?
Ss read Reading A Task 1.
Explain the questions when necessary.
Allow 5 minutes for Ss to do the task.
For each question, ask one student to give his partner’s answer. Encourage complete
sentences.
Ask the class for different ideas as each question.
Task 2
Now read the following passage and find out other people’s answers to the questions
in Task 1. Mark the difficult parts, if there are any. And ask the teacher to explain
afterwards.
Objective: Ss can get the main idea or find some specific information in the passage.
(time: 20 minutes)
Steps:
Ss read Reading A Task 2.
Allow 15 minutes for Ss to do the task.
Select some Ss to give the answers.
Give the key.
Ask Ss to give the difficult parts they have marked for your explanation. Then
explain.

detect: to discover, find out, to notice
e.g. I seemed to detect some anger in her voice.
flatter: to praise too much in order to win favor.
e.g.: He flattered her on/about her cooking.

Keep track of: to keep oneself informed about a person, state of affairs, etc.

Listening
Task 1
Listen to the five statements twice and write them down.(time: 10 minutes)
Objective: Ss can accurately write down a dictation using the vocabulary from
Reading A.
Task 2
Listen to the four conversations, and choose the best answer for each of the questions
you hear. (time: 15 minutes)
Objective: Ss can understand an oral dialogue using the vocabulary from Reading A.
Task 3
Listen to the short passage and fill in the blanks with what you hear. (time: 10
minutes)
Objective: Ss can find specific information from listening to a passage.
Task 4
Listen to the dialogue and tick off the correct statements according to the dialogue.
(time: 5 minutes)
Objective: Ss can listen for specific information-complaining about people’s health.
Task 5
Practice the following expressions with your partner. (time: 15minutes)
Task 6
Listen to the dialogue and fill in the following table with what you hear.
