NTEQ LESSON PLAN LESSON TITLE: FITNESS GOALS SUBJECT AREA(S): PE _____________________________GRADE LEVEL: 9-12 ___________________ LESSON SUMMARY Briefly describe the purpose of the lesson and the student activities. This lesson is for students to come up with short term and long term fitness goals, and a plan for the students to achieve these goals. Students will watch a motivational fitness clip. The students will go through different stations; Station 1: Use a computer to find 5 different exercises you can do with no equipment. Station 2: Use an iPad with a partner or small group to film your exercises and watch back to see if you have proper form or what you need to do to fix your form. Station 3: Go through a circuit of your exercises. LEARNING OBJECTIVES By the end of this lesson, the students will: SWBAT make short and long term goals using a graphic organizer for fitness and health. Students will use resources to create a diet and exercise plan. We are going to watch a video clip from the biggest loser about one woman’s struggle and how she overcame that struggle. Then we will come up with our own goals and how we will reach them. We will do some computer work to research different exercises, plans, healthy eating personal to you. We will come up with a 12 week plan and put it into practice to make sure we have correct form. MULTIDIMENSIONAL ACTIVITIES Before students go to computers they will need to fill out their goal graphic organizer. They will find a partner who has the same goals as they do and work with them for the remainder of the day. While they are at computers they will go to bodybuilding.com and find 10 exercises they can do that need no equipment, they will develop a 12 week plan (the website does it for them). Once they are done they will go and practice their exercises to make sure they are doing proper form so they do not get injured. One partner will record them so they can see how they look and what needs to be changed. Lastly, they will do a workout circuit. LESSON INTRODUCTION – I will talk to them about health and fitness and show them a video clip that will really pull them in. Talk about being healthy for physical activity – they all have current physicals so they can participate. Go over objectives and what we will be doing today. COMPUTER ACTIVITIES Bodybuilding.com SUPPORTING ACTIVITIES Practice your exercises and make sure you know how to properly do them CULMINATING ACTIVITY – We will do a circuit work out together to get our fitness plan going. The teacher will lead and show students how a full workout should be including warm up, circuits, and cool down. We will then talk about pre and post workout meals, and what the students found when they were researching. Students will be able to check their heart rate throughout the workout so they know if they need to work harder, keep steady, or slow it down. All students will wear pedometers so at the end they can see how many steps they took.
