Welcome to Sail Away Entertainment, the umbrella organization for Jerry Diaz, the band Hanna’s Reef, and the trio
Bermuda Triangle. If you’re looking for tropical music entertainment, look no further! Singer/songwriter Jerry Diaz
performs solo shows, and fronts both the band Hanna’s Reef, and the trio Bermuda Triangle. Regardless of what
size venue, private party, or special event you have planned, Sail Away Entertainment has a “tropical solution” for
you. Let us tell you a little bit about us:
Jerry Diaz
Singer/songwriter Jerry Diaz hails from Nederland, Texas, a small bedroom community just outside Beaumont,
Texas, and about an hour’s drive from Houston, and Galveston Bay. Jerry began performing music professionally in
1993, as lead guitarist for the band KEY WEST. After a very successful 9 year run with Key West, Jerry left the band
to pursue other projects, including a solo career, and fronting his own bands. While with Key West, Diaz performed
across the country, and in Mexico. The band released three albums during that time, and sold nearly 20,000 units.
In 2002, Jerry began a solo career for the first time, performing in smaller venues, such as restaurants, small clubs,
and backyard parties. Simultaneously, he put together a group of musicians who would come to be known as
HANNA’s REEF.
As a solo performer, Jerry covers songs by Jimmy Buffett, and other great American songwriters, including Gordon
Lightfoot, Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, Eddy Raven, and Brian Wilson, as well as Texas favorites like Jerry Jeff Walker,
Tommy Alverson, Larry Joe Taylor, and David Allan Coe. In addition, Diaz regularly performs many of his original
tunes, where it is appropriate. Armed only with an acoustic guitar, Jerry has done (and continues to do) solo shows
from coast to coast, at sea, and in Mexico, and the Virgin Islands. At request, Jerry is prepared to do a Jimmy
Buffett “tribute” performance as a solo show.
Jerry Diaz & Hanna’s Reef
Texas band Hanna’s Reef bills itself as “The Premier Gulf Coast Beach Band”. And with good reason! Performing a
carefully selected mix of Jimmy Buffett tunes, and covers of other timeless tropical favorites, Hanna’s Reef is the
perfect band to help you create and enhance a tropical atmosphere at your special event, private party, or venue.
And as an added bonus, the band mixes in their very popular original tunes (where appropriate) and a handful of
covers by other Texas songwriters and performers.
Hanna’s Reef’s “sound” starts with a solid foundation of drums, bass, and congas. Backing tracks are never used!
To that, the band adds acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and keyboards. And, to top it all off, Hanna’s Reef features
steel drums, and sometimes violin, or other solo instruments. Led by frontman Jerry Diaz, the band also has four
background vocalists. (Please note that Hanna’s Reef can perform with as many as eight band members, or as little
as four band members, depending on the needs and budget of the prospective client or venue.)
In the few short years that Hanna’s Reef has been together (formed in the summer of 2002), the band has
performed at over 50 festivals and special events, and numerous private and corporate parties. The band has
recorded two CD’s; one studio album with all original material, and one “live” album with a mixture of original songs
and cover tunes. Both CD’s sell briskly on amazon.com, as well as iTunes, CD Baby, walmart.com, and many, many
other internet shopping locations. The band’s music is played often on many independent internet locations, and has
even been featured as background music on several radio commercials.
Bermuda Triangle
Bermuda Triangle is a very fun, “light-hearted” offshoot of the band Hanna’s Reef. Bermuda Triangle is the perfect
solution for those parties or venues where a large band is just not possible, but a tropical atmosphere is still desired.
Bermuda Triangle performs virtually the same playlist as Hanna’s Reef. The musicians that make up the trio vary
from show to show, depending on availability of personnel, but almost always includes Jerry Diaz on acoustic guitar
and vocals. The trio is usually rounded out by steel drums or keyboards, and either bass or congas/percussion.
Many folks find Bermuda Triangle to be best suited for those summertime backyard luaus, and small restaurant
venues with patios.
Other configurations
In case none of the above configurations is exactly what you are looking for, let us know, and we may be able to put
together what you’re after. Also, though we did not mention it above, please note that Jerry Diaz does several shows
a year as a duo, with either steel drums, bass, or keyboards as accompaniment.
During the busy months from April to October, the demand for our services is sometimes so great that we have
resorted to splitting into two groups to handle the requests for gigs that we receive.
Please feel free to inquire about our availability, even if you are aware that we are booked somewhere else already.
Whenever possible, we try to accommodate all requests. And, in addition to that, if we absolutely cannot be
available, we can (and will) help you contact many of our friends and associates throughout the country who might
be able to meet your needs. And all as a courtesy to you, at no charge.
What to expect from us:
If you hire us for your special event, party, or venue, here’s what you can expect from us:
If it’s a public special event, you can expect that we’ll advertise it thoroughly on our website, as well as in our emails and other correspondence. We’ll make ourselves available for radio appearances (day of the show only, if out
of our area). We’ll work with your sound engineers and PA provider in advance, ensuring that they know what they
need to know to help us sound good, and be on and off your stage in a timely manner. We’ll show up for our
performance at the assigned time, and we’ll be ready to load in at the earliest available time. When it’s time to
perform, you’ll get a professional show from start to finish. You won’t have to worry about us playing any “blue
material”, or anything unsuitable for a family oriented crowd. And most importantly, you won’t have to put up with
any “attitudes” from our band or staff. We value every engagement, and never forget that you are the customer.
If it’s a private party, you can expect that we’ll follow your wishes to the letter, within reason. Again, we’ll arrive at
the location of the party at the mutually agreed upon time, and we’ll be ready to start our performance at the
assigned time. We’ll provide a professional PA system and lights (suited for the location) unless other arrangements
have been made in advance. We’ll follow your wishes regarding volume, length of sets, breaks, and your need to
make announcements or speeches. We’ll do a professional show from start to finish. And if you are a booking agent
who has arranged this performance for us, we’ll never try to make a subsequent booking with the client. We’ll refer
them directly to you, and will happily provide them your business card, if you’ve sent them to us. We’ll dress
appropriately, and professionally, as per your prior instructions. If necessary, we’ll make sure that all members of
our support staff are discreet, and backstage during our show, or if you allow, we’ll mingle in a friendly manner with
your guests.
If it’s a public venue, you can expect that we’ll advertise the show on our website, and in our e-mails. We’ll provide
a professional PA system and lights (suited for the venue) unless other arrangements have been made in advance.
We’ll follow your wishes regarding volume, and length of sets and breaks. We take full responsibility for the actions
of our support staff while in your venue. If you are a booking agent who has arranged this performance for us, we’ll
never try to make a subsequent booking with the client. We’ll refer them directly to you, and will happily provide
them your business card, if you’ve sent them to us.
Please note that for all special events, or other public venue performances, we will almost always request that we
have the opportunity to set up a location for our merchandise sales. We will not do that at private party
performances, however, we reserve the right to have CD’s available discreetly backstage for guests who desire to
purchase them directly from us.
Other trivial tidbits of information:
Jerry Diaz, through Sail Away Entertainment, presents “songwriter’s shows” from time to time. Most shows take
place at Rossetti’s Italian Restaurant, in Clear Lake Shores, Texas. The shows always feature a guest songwriter
from out of town, and sometimes include Jerry, or another songwriter opening the show. Some of Jerry’s guest
songwriters include Kelly McGuire, Larry Joe Taylor, Brian Burns, Keith Sykes, James “Sunny Jim” White, John
Reno, Brent Burns, Eric Stone, Mark Mulligan, and many others. When traveling, Jerry is available to do this type of
show himself.
Hanna’s Reef is not averse to being billed as a “Jimmy Buffett tribute band”, for your special event. The band is very
well known throughout the country by “Parrot Heads”, and has performed at many, many Parrot Head events.
Hanna’s Reef consists of a core group of musicians, but sometimes uses guest musicians from all parts of the
country in our performances.
