Problem
I am unable to run PSCAD after March 13, 2006
Log File Evidence
If you open any the licensing log files

PscadLmgr.txt
(go Start | Programs | PSCADxxx | Pscad license log file)
Note: exists if PSCAD V4 is installed and has been used

Lmgrd-log.txt
(go Start | Programs | HVDC Lmgr | License Manager log file)
Note: exists if you are using the standalone License Manager
and see either or both of these error messages
 USB driver version <USB Error: driver binary not signed by a valid authority, status = 0>
 USB Error: driver binary not signed by a valid authority, status = 0
then this document applies to you.
Affected Drivers

Sentinel Protection Installer 7.2.1
Note: PSCAD 4.2.0 and License Manager 1.25 were shipped with Sentinel Protection Installer 7.1.1,
which does NOT have this problem, but they are also compatible with 7.2.1, which


might have been installed by other software which also uses Sentinel keys, or
you may have downloaded the drivers from the SafeNet web site.
Affected PSCAD Software
If you have
 PSCAD 4.2.0 and/or
 License Manager 1.25 or better,
then you most likely have the Sentinel Protection Installer 7.1.1 or 7.2.1 installed
Cause
The Sentinel website, document ID = 5333, says the following about the NEW 7.2.2 drivers
Description:
Sentinel Protection Installer 7.2.2
Content:
This is the Sentinel Protection Installer (SPI) version 7.2.2 for Windows. It replaces the SPI 7.2.1
which has an expired driver signature. You can run it on a clean machine or install it on top of
existing Sentinel System drivers.

Version: 7.2.2
This problem is a Sentinel driver fault, not a PSCAD or License Manager fault.
Solution
You need to cleanly uninstall your 7.2.1 Sentinel Protection installer, and
 install the 7.1.1 shipped with PSCAD 4.2.0, or
 install the new 7.3.2 driver on this CD
Instructions for Option 1 – install the 7.1.1 driver
Step 1. uninstall the Sentinel Protection Installer 7.2.1,
Step 2. reboot your machine to ensure the 7.2.1 drivers are gone,
Step 3. insert the PSCAD 4.2.0 CD, and repair your PSCAD and/or Licence Manager installation.
This should install the 7.1.1 drivers which were shipped with PSCAD, and which are not supposedly
affected by this driver bug.
The downside is that if you have any s/w which MUST use the 7.2.2 drivers, then that software might not
work, depending on if it enforces usage with 7.2.1 and better.
Instructions for Option 2 – install the new 7.3.2 driver
Step 1: extract the contents of the Sentinel732.zip to some temporary directory,
but do NOT run any of the programs yet.
Step 2: Unplug your Sentinel USB or parallel port key.
Step 3: Go Start | Settings | Control Panel
Step 4: Select Add/Remove Programs
Step 5: Find the Sentinel Protection Installer
(most likely you have 7.1.1 or 7.2.1)
if it is between 7.0.0 and 7.2.2, then you need to uninstall it.
Step 6: Select Remove to uninstall this driver
Step 7: If your machine does not reboot, then manually restart it.
This is very important!
Rebooting will ensure that the old driver is completely gone before installing the new driver.
Step 8: Now browse to the directory to which you extracted the contents of the Setup.zip file
in Step 1 above
Step 9: Select Install.bat
IMPORTANT: do NOT select Setup.exe,
as it will install components not required by the PSCAD licensing!
Step 10: This will display a DOS console window similar to the following…
After the install is complete, the console window will disappear.
Step 11: Now plug in your key.
Step 12: To check to that the 7.3.2 drivers have been installed,
Go Start | Settings | Control Panel
Select Add/Remove Programs
Scroll down to Sentinel Protection Installer, and you see the following…
Step 13: Additionally, run the Getinfo utility which was also in the ZIP file,
any you should see something similar to the following:
