A Summer In Italy You Will Never Forget!
Locations: Calabria is located in the Southern tip of Italy and boast unforgettable vistas across magnificent beaches
with crystal clear water and rugged mountains; ancient Greek and Roman ruins; Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque
towns; Byzantine and Norman churches and castles.
One week excursion to Puglia -- plus visit of Matera, Basilicata: Students will spend one week at the beach in
Otranto, Puglia, the most touristic region in Italy, and will visit Matera, Basilicata, chosen as the European City of the
year for 2019 and protected by UNESCO (World Heritage Centre) for its "Sassi," or stone caves.
Courses of Italian, Music, English Literature and Film Media: The program offers courses in Beginning,
Intermediate, Advanced Italian; plus Italian Literature, Civilization, Culture, Cinema Cuisine and Business (Please
Notice: ITL 101-102 will satisfy the modern language requirement and ITL 315, ITL 392 & ITL 395 are taught in
English). Students can also take courses from the Department of Music (MUS 101, MUS 111 & MUS 408), the English
Department (ENG 160, ENG 399 & ENG 394) or two Film Media courses taught in English (Film 351 & Film 401), and
be involved in all aspects of film pre-production and production, including screenwriting, filming, casting and editing.
Special Guests: In our program we have some of the best Italian writers and scholars: our 2013 guest speaker was
Dacia Maraini, Nobel Prize Nominee and Winner of Strega and Campiello Literary Prizes; our 2014 and 2015 guest
speaker was Carmine Abate, who published several acclaimed novels and short story collections with Italy’s leading
publishing house Mondadori and who was awarded the 2012 Campiello Prize.
Food: Taste and learn how to prepare some of the best dishes of the Italian cuisine in great restaurants and with our
mamma talented chefs.
Cultural events: Cultural events abound, from local traditional festivals, to popular music concerts,
to lectures by prominent Italian and international scholars.
Program fees: $4,200 (for 6 credits), $4,350 (for 7 credits), $4,500 (for 8 credits), $4,650 (for 9 credits)
Include: Tuition, room in private apartments with bed linens, and towels, breakfast and dinner, one-week excursion to
Puglia & visit of Basilicata with transportation, hotel and board, plus other excursions with guided visits of museums,
archeological ruins, monuments, churches, etc. Trips to the beach and/or to the mountains; computer and wireless
internet service at the De Rada Center, living labs to learn how to cook, paint, make olive oil, wine, pastries, etc.
