MARIQUITA AND HER SEVEN LITTLE BROTHERS
O
nce upon a time, there was a couple who had seven sons and only one
daughter. The father loved his daughter a lot but he was very rude with his sons. After
some years, the sons decided to leave the house:

Son 1: Mariquita, we are going to go away.
Son 2: But we want to give you this ring.
Mariquita: Thank you very much and take care.
The years passed, and Mariquita was more and more beautiful. Her mother started to
feel envy of her. Everyday, she went to her bedroom and she said:

Mother: My dear mirror, is there anyone more beautiful than me?
And the mirror always answered the same:
-
Mirror: No, there isn’t. You are the most beautiful woman in the world.
But one day, it was different:
-
Mother: My dear mirror, is there anyone more beautiful than me?
Mirror: Yes, there is. Your daughter is more beautiful than you.
The mother was very angry and decided to kill her daughter. She called her maids and
she told them:

Mother: Take Mariquita and go to the forest. Kill her and bring me her heart.
Maids: We’ll do it, my lady.
But they couldn´t do it, so they killed a dog and took his heart.

Maid 1: We have killed her.
Maid 2: Here you are her heart.
Mother: Jajaja, I am now the most beautiful woman in the world.
Meanwhile, Mariquita started to walk into the forest. Some hours later, she found a
little house and went in to have a rest. There was a table with seven plates on it. She
cleaned the house and cooked the meal. Then, she hid behind a tree and waited for
the owners of the house. Seven thieves lived in that house and were very surprised
when they saw the house.

Thief 1: Who has been here?
Thief 2: Everything is clean.
Thief 3: And the meal is ready.

Thief 4: It can be poisoned.
Thief 5: Give a little to the dog.
Thief 6: It happened nothing.
Thief 7: We can eat it.
All the week was the same but one day they decided to discover who the person who
prepared the meal every day was.

Thief 1: Today I’ll wait here to discover the mistery.
But Mariquita was very clever and when she counted them she discovered the tramp.

Mariquita: One, two, three, four, five, SIX. Only six. This is a tramp.
The thieves decided to come back home earlier to discover the mysterious guy.

Thief 2: Who are you?
Thief 3: And what are you doing here?
Mariquita: Me….me….
Thief 4: Look at her ring.
Thief 5: She is our sister.
All of them were very happy. They celebrated the happy meeting dancing and singing.

Thief 6: You are going to live here with us.
Thief 7: But be careful and don’t open the door to anyone.
Mariquita: I promise.
Some days later, Mariquita’s mum was looking at her mirror when she asked:

Mother: My dear mirror, is there anyone more beautiful than me?
Mirror: Of course, there is. Your daughter is more beautiful than you.
Mother: But it is impossible. She is dead.
Mirror: No, she isn’t. She is living in the forest with seven thieves.
Mother: Oh, my God!!!!this is horrible!!!I have to kill her.
She was very angry. She went to visit a terrible witch to ask her for help.

Mother: Dear witch, I need your help.
Witch: What do you want to do?
Mother: I want to kill my daughter.
Witch: I know. Look, this is a magic shirt.
Mother: Magic?

Witch: Yes, it is. I’ll go to visit her and when she puts on it she’ll die.
Mother: Thank you very much.
Witch: You’re welcome. Now, go home and don’t worry.
And taking the shirt, the witch went to visit the girl. She knocked at the door.

Mariquita: Who’s there?
Witch: I’m your grandma. I have a present for you.
Mariquita (opening the door): Good morning.
Witch: Here you are. This beautiful shirt is for you.
Mariquita: Oh, it is really beautiful! Thank you very much.
When Mariquita put on her shirt, she fell on the floor. She looked dead. The witch
went away laughing. Some minutes later, the thieves arrived to the house.

Thief 1: Oh my God!!!
Thief 2: What has happened here?
Thief 3: Our sister!!!
Thief 4: She is dead.
They were very sad. They put her in a crystal box and threw it into the sea. The prince
of the kingdom was fishing and found the box.

Prince: What’s this? Oh, my God! What a beautiful girl! Servants!
Servant 1: Yes, Sir.
Prince: Quickly! Gather that box ant take it to the palace.
Servant 2: Of course, Sir.
Prince: Put her in my bedroom. Nobody has to know it.
The prince was very sad. He was in love with that girl but she never woke up. One day,
the king discovered the girl.

King: Who is that girl? And what is she doing here?
Prince: She is my love. I am going to marry her when she wakes up.
King: You are mad! She is dead! We have to bury her!
Prince: But…you can’t! She is my love.
King: Dear son, I’ll prepare everything to bury her.
When they were preparing everything for the funeral, one maid went into the
bedroom and discovered the box.

Maid: Oh, what a beautiful girl! and what a beautiful blouse! It’s a pity to throw
this blouse away.
When she took the blouse off, Mariquita woke up.

Maid: Oh, my God! What has happened? Prince! Prince! Come here! Quickly!
Prince (running into the room): It is a miracle! My dear lady! I am falling in love
with you while you were slept. Do you want to marry me?
Mariquita: Of course, I want.
They talked about all that had happened and they started to prepare the wedding.
Mariquita’s mum was punished and the witch was burned at the stake. Mariquita, her
brothers and the prince were always happy.
