Syllabus Addendum Template for Clickers It is important to inform students about the use of clickers in the classroom at the beginning of the semester. To aid you in providing this information, FITL has developed a template with information you may want to include in your syllabus about the clicker technology. Feel free to modify the template to suit your course. Use of Clickers in this Course What are clickers? The clickers is a small handheld device used to transmit student responses to inclass polls to the instructor. Why are the clickers being used? Clickers are used to assess student understanding, encourage collaboration and improve student preparation. They help students stay involved in the lesson and increase interactivity in the classroom. How do students access clickers? Incoming first-year and transfer students receive a clicker at the beginning of the semester. Other students who need clickers can borrow for the semester or academic year from the FITL Center in LC 444. All students using a clicker will need to register the device through Blackboard before using. When will we be using clickers? (for example) You are expected to bring your clicker to every class. OR: I will notify you when you should bring your clicker to class. Our first day using clickers will be Thursday, September 8th. It is good practice for students to always carry their clicker to class. Participation It is important to clarify to students how their participation with clickers will be measured or evaluated; will it be used only to gauge their understanding of the material, or will it be graded? For example: Your participation in clicker polls is worth 5% of your final grade. OR: Clicker quizzes replace the multiple-choice section of your final exam and are worth 15% of your final grade. continued Technical Support If your clicker is broken or lost, please notify me immediately. You can then consult http://www.poly.edu/academics/support/FITL/clickers/students or contact clickers@poly.edu for further information. Academic Honesty All clickers must be registered in Blackboard before use in this course. By registering your clicker in Blackboard, you are tying your name and ID to that clicker. Using another student’s clicker is the same as writing another student’s name on your test. This is considered cheating, and will be treated as such.
