Focus on the Success Strategies
1. SHIFTING THE FOCUS FROM PRODUCT TO PROCESS
 From planning and organizing the event to sparking interest and passion for future
events.
 From managing the “overall” happenings to motivating every child.
2. THINKING INTEGRATION
 Integrating other disciplines involve the entire school community.
 Integrating the JRFH/HFH program makes the event more dynamic, challenging and
inviting.
3. INSTILLING THE “HEART HEROES” THEME AUTOMATICALLY CREATES MORE
DOLLARS
 Students feeling the importance of being a “Heart Hero” or a “JRFH Ambassador” can
multiply fund raising efforts.
 Focusing on this message continues to expand the resource base and encourages more
students to become involved in this school-wide event.

Dear Charlene,
February 10th, Julia Randall Elementary School will be holding their 22nd Annual Jump Rope for
Heart, which raises money for the American Heart Association. The event will involve approximately
500 Kindergarten thru 5th grade students between the ages of 5-11. The money raised by our school,
along with other Arizona schools will go to fund vitally needed cardiovascular research and health
education programs.
As an additional incentive to our students, I am contacting local merchants and sports organizations
to donate prizes for the students while they jump rope. For every $10.00 in donations a student
collects, their name is entered into a drawing during the event. These prizes have provided students
additional motivation and increased excitement during the event. Last year, our students raised
$6,583.90. This year, our goal is to raise over $10,000.00 for the American Heart Association.
Not only is Jump Rope For Heart fun, it also teaches students the importance of community service
and developing a healthy lifestyle. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and look forward
to hearing from you.
Yours in Health & Fitness,
Donna Moore

Dear Charlene,
This was our 23rd year to raise money for the American Heart Association through Jump Rope for Heart and it
proved to be another exciting event at Julia Randall Elementary School. Our students raised $11,149.29 for the
American Heart Association. Your contribution of the 75 Ice Cream Cone Certificates generated excitement
and added additional incentives for students to collect more money.
The Jump Rope for Heart program gives students an opportunity to perform community service while also
instilling the importance of staying fit through good cardiovascular activity. Julia Randall Elementary School’s
contribution will make a significant impact in the fight against our nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers, heart
disease and stroke. These funds will also help the American Heart Association provide educational programs
and materials at no or low cost to schools across the United States.
Brandon was the top money earner with $370.00. Neveah raised $365.00, John raised $350.00, Carsyn raised
$202.00, Sandra raised $160.00 and Elle raised $150.00. Approximately two hundred and fifty Kindergarten
through fifth grade students participated in this year’s event. Jump Rope for Heart is a very positive
experience for our students at Julia Randall Elementary School. Through our event, we hope to teach students
the importance of helping others and instilling the significance of giving something back to their community.
We are extremely proud of our students! Without your assistance, our event would not be recognized as one
of THE BEST Jump Rope for Heart events in the state of Arizona! Thank you for your continued support!
Yours in Fitness,
Donna Moore

Julia Randall Elementary School Falls Just Short of Jump Rope for Heart Goal
On April 24th, students who participated in the Jump Rope for Heart event at Julia Randall Elementary
School attended a fun-filled assembly in which their principal, Mr. Robert Varner received a whipped coconut
cream pie in the face by the top money earner, Hannah. Students made history by raising $14,412.60 in their
annual Jump Rope for Heart event for the American Heart Association. This was just short of the $15,000.00
goal set at the beginning of the event. Last year JRE raised $10,428.69. Just fewer than 500 students
participated in the event. Donations raised by the Jump Rope for Heart program help fund research in heart
disease and stroke and support the American Heart Association’s public and professional education programs.
Heart disease is the No. 1 killer in America and stroke is No. 3.
“I am so proud of my students,” said Donna Moore, Jump Rope for Heart coordinator at Julia Randall
Elementary School. “By raising money for the American Heart Association, they are making a difference in the
fight against heart disease and stroke.” Eighteen students earned over $150 and their names will be entered
in a national drawing for a trip for four to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. They are Brianna, Jorden,
Delayne, Neveah, Joshua, Andrea, Makenzie, Seri, Kaycee, Hannah, Cesar, Montanna, Erin, Sophie, Brianna,
Jayson, Addie, and Makenna.
Hannah was the top money earner this year for JRE with $765.00. Hannah received four tickets to an
Arizona Rattlers football game for her hard work. Addie raised $625.00, Brianna raised $601.00, and Andrea
collected $511.00. Individual classes this year competed to raise the most money to win their teacher a 1 hour
Infrared Sauna and Massage donated by Payson Day Spa. The winning class was Mrs. O’Brien’s 4th grade class
who raised 2,414.98.
“Our event is always a success due to the community involvement and support through financial
donations and prizes,” stated Moore. “For every $10.00 a student raises, their name is placed in a drawing.
These prizes are all donated by Payson businesses and Arizona professional sports teams.” JRE would like to
thank the following businesses and sports organizations who donated prizes: The Arizona Cardinals, Phoenix
Mercury, Arizona Rattlers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Wal-Mart, Dairy Queen, Sonic, Safeway, Bashas, Pizza Hut,
Walgreen’s, McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s, Chili’s, Sawmill Movie Theatre, and Blockbuster Video. This
year, the Phoenix Coyotes provided every student who raised $10.00 with a free hockey ticket.
The top class from each grade level was also awarded with an afternoon of pizza, drinks and physical
activity in Green Valley Park. Pizza Factory donated the pizza and Pepsi donated water.
This year, we also had four very special businesses that helped us by making a donation to the
American Heart Association. The Mazatzal Casino donated $600.00, Payson Eye Care donated $100.00, Cars
Auto Body donated $100.00, and Payson Concrete donated $100.00.
The Jump Rope for Heart event is sponsored by the American Alliance of Health, Physical Education,
Recreation, and Dance and its goal is to show the benefits of regular exercise and to raise money for the
American Heart Association’s research and educational programs and materials which are distributed to
schools throughout the United States.
Jump Rope For Heart is not only fun, but also teaches participants the importance of a heart-healthy
lifestyle that includes regular physical activity, proper nutrition and living tobacco-free.
