Access Microscholarship Program A Full-Day English Cultural Seminar Rationale: The results of recent studies both in the U.S.A. and in Israel have shown an alarming increase in childhood obesity. Even the First Lady, Mrs. Michelle Obama, has decided to promote a healthy lifestyle campaign through diet and exercise. Her mission is to engage, educate and empower all Americans across the lifespan to adopt a healthy lifestyle. The Ministry of Education also recognized the importance of this subject and has chosen Encouraging a Healthy Lifestyle as the central theme of the current school year. The Ministry recommends teachers address the issue in order to raise awareness, expand students' knowledge, and encourage them to lead a healthy lifestyle. Teaching the subject in English lessons will also improve students' language skills. Therefore, every school in the Access program will devote Tuesday, January 17, 2012, to this theme. Planning: 1. The students will read relevant materials on the subject. Texts can be found in students' course books, newspapers, Internet sites, or taken from the links given below. 2. The class will be divided into pairs or small groups and will plan their projects. 3. The students will devote 3-4 hours to designing their projects. 4. The students will present their projects in class. We recommend carrying out the preliminary stage (1) in advance.
