CRESTVIEW BAPTIST CHURCH Our Mission is to Glorify God by Reaching and Developing People for Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Issue 108 July 2008 FROM THE PASTOR… The summer of 2008 is exciting at Crestview! God is at work in our midst! People are being saved and baptized. We have several awaiting baptism at this time. The Lord is leading others to join our fellowship, attendance is holding up, and we are having lots of guests. Keep praying, keep inviting, and keep coming! I am glad Brother Dan is here and now ministering full blast. June 22nd was the first service that really had his touch on it. Many people commented that they loved the music and really worshipped. (Please pray that we will get the bugs worked out of the new sound system.) Perhaps you would like to participate in the Praise Team or the instruments part of the music on the platform. If so, don’t wait to be asked; talk to Dan and volunteer! Rick Murray’s love, insights, and enthusiasm are a great asset in our Youth Department and in the total ministries of the church this summer. We licensed Rick to the Gospel ministry in the last business meeting. Be sure to pray for and encourage Rick. He will be leaving for school at the end of this month. Thank the Lord for bringing Rick to us this summer. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL TIME IS HERE! Mark Saturday morning, July 12 on your calendar to help us canvas a neighborhood for VBS. It will only take a couple of hours of your time. You can also take registration forms and register nieces, nephews, grandchildren, neighborhood children, children of friends and work associates or any children! Make your vehicle a church bus and bring children to VBS. (By the way, parents are welcome to come with their children and observe or join us for ADULT VBS!) VBS is for ages 4 through 6th grades. Leroy Lynn will be teaching our Adult VBS this year! VBS is from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. July 14 to July 18. Pray, Invite, Register, and Bring the Gang to Outrigger Island VBS! 2008 is a great summer to be a member of Crestview Baptist Church. I love you, Bro. Gene July’s Worship Notes What a wonderful welcome we received here at Crestview! Dyan and I are so thankful to be here and for everything you all have done to make our transition so smooth. We were shocked by the amount of food, toilet paper, and other necessities that you all gave at our pounding. It took us more than an hour to unload our car and stock our shelves! Thank you for that blessing and for being a blessing to us as we begin our new ministry here. We really look forward to the future and what God holds in store at Crestview. Speaking of the future…It’s time to get our drama ministry up and running. Thank you to all who have expressed an interest, it is certainly not too late to get involved. We will hold our first meeting/rehearsal on Thursday, July 3rd at 7:00 PM. If you want to be a part of the drama team, but cannot attend on that day, PLEASE let me know. This will be an opportunity to start building our team and discussing upcoming dramas. Secondly, I would like to put together a team of people to assist in planning the worship services. There are so many resources out there that we could use to really heighten the worship experience at Crestview. If you are creative, love movies, love music, are artistic, love dramas, love interpretative music, love to organize…then I would love to have you on our team! Please see me if you need more information! More details will be coming soon. Thank you again for your kindness, your prayers, your gifts, and for making us feel at home already. Our God is an awesome God! IWT (Impact World Tour) VBS Outrigger Island July 14-18, 2008 VBS REFRESHMENTS – We always have a wonderful arrangement of food for our children and workers at Bible School. We need help with food donations for them or you can make a cash donation. Please contact Linda Burke or Cathy Griffith. Please commit to being a Local Link (counselor) at the IWT events. All the events will be local to the Miami Valley, and will be held in October. Scott Chadwick led our 1st training session here at Crestview with six people attending. We need believers who will counsel the thousands of new Christians who will be on our hands as a result of the IMPACT WORLD TOUR. Do you have a heart for new believers? What is needed is for Local Links to call the new believer or the person who rededicated their life to Christ on the next day and once a week for eight weeks. If you are interested, contact Scott Chadwick and attend one of the following training sessions: July 3rd 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm St. Luke United Methodist Church 100 N Broad St., Fairborn July 10th 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm Clearcreek Christian Assembly of God 1150 S. IWT Dayton prayer committee PRAISE/PRAY 1. Praise God: A door has been opened wide for the Impact World Tour to have events and share the gospel in Ohio 's prisons. As Team Xtreme shared in local jails over the weekend, the response was phenomenal. As one person told me, "the prisoners are more excited about IWT than getting out." Please pray that hundreds, even thousands of inmates across Ohio would accept Christ and exhibit transformed lives. 2. Praise God for the response to Team Xtreme in churches (see introduction). Please pray for these baby believers to be firmly rooted & established in their faith. May they grow into mature, fruit-bearing Kingdom citizens. Also pray that the rest of the events would be very well-attended & people would have tender hearts. 3. Praise God that, judging from the response in the spring and this week, the harvest field in the Miami Valley is clearly full and ripe. However, we must continue to press on and pray to the Lord of the Harvest, because there are not nearly enough workers in the field. PRAY! LOVE IN ACTION JULY 8 - MEET AT CHURCH TO HAND OUT BOTTLES OF WATER TO THE COMMUNITY! YOUTH STUFF which they live. Thanks to Ricky we brought S.N.A.C. back & had a wonderful time. There were more than 30 youth & adults who showed up. We played volleyball then took a break for some pop, pizza & cookies. After eating we went back to playing volleyball & ended the night with a game of Under Ground Church. Everyone was having so much fun no one wanted to leave! The youth also have a little contest going on. In the Sunday School Newsletter each week there will be a riddle & memory verse, the first youth with the answer to the riddle & can quote the verse will receive cookies from Robin as their prize. Also the college class had a cookout at Scott & Robin’s. We had 8 students show up & had a wonderful time of eating & fellowship! The youth also participated in the first “Almost Anything Goes…Youth Event.” This competition pitted our college students against our current youth group in a variety of games. These games ranged from eating chocolate covered donuts to a trivia game with an interesting penalty for missing a question; pies in the face. The Youth Group is going to King’s Island on Friday, July 11th for the Spirit Song Concert Series which will feature bands such as, Jeremy Camp and Casting Crowns. We’ll also enjoy both the rides within the amusement park, as well as, the Boomerang Bay Water-Park before the concerts begin. If anyone wants to go, let me know! Most importantly, the Crestview Youth Group is doing many things this summer to grow our relationships with Christ, as well as, with each other and the church. If you have any questions or suggestions about the youth ministry here at Crestview, please contact myself or Brad Sidaras. Sunday, July 27 following the evening Youth service MEN’S PRAYER BREAKFAST Our next Men’s Prayer Breakfast (it’s FREE!) and Bible Study will be Saturday, July 12 AT 8:30 A.M.
