n the first part of business computer applications course, the student will learn to work with the latest
Microsoft Office and Operating System. Also, students will become skilled at performing routine business tasks in this environment. The student will also acquire in-depth skills in Excel applications, multimedia presentations and a quick review of fundamental business mathematics.
In the Business Computer Applications I course the student will learn how to use various computer applications for many courses that the business administration student will encounter including: Business
Information and e-Business/e-Commerce applications, Management, HRM and Supervision, Purchasing and Inventory Management, Finance, e-Marketing.
In the Business Computer Applications II we will continue with the learning of additional computer applications for business use, specifically the use of desktop publishing and databases utilization.

Using a personal computer in a Personal Computer lab where each computer is linked to a network.
Using the online help and resources that exist on the Internet.
Using a textbook customized to develop autonomy in learning. The teacher will monitor learning progress by setting quality control measures in class as well as by using online testing modules.
To manage a computerized workstation, the student will learn to work with a current operating
system and will be able to understand:
Utilizing Microsoft software for current business applications.
Find help with online applications and/or on the Internet
Create folders, subfolders and files in the office suite environment
Use the latest encryption procedures to ensure the security of data.
Identify the correct method to import or export business data.
Use of various e-mail browser to:
Create E-mails with attachments and priorities
Create different folders for incoming messages
Create collaborative tools and meetings online

The student will acquire knowledge of an office suite, in particular, Microsoft Office 2013
Professional by:
Identifying the various components of the office suite
Identifying and clarifying the nature of the task to be performed and the desired outcome.
Listing the functional objective of each component
Naming procedures that are common to all components
Demonstrating when to use word processing and presentation software.
Identifying Internet sites dedicated to the office suite software .
To produce various management documents, students will :
Use presentation software to create and run a multimedia presentation
Creating practical and effective on-line applications.
Use of spreadsheet software for various accounting and business applications..
To automate tasks, students will:
Create dynamic links within the Microsoft software and the Open software.
Develop simple macro commands for the Excel software.
Create document and presentation templates.
Lectures, demonstrations, and Lab presentations.
Progress tests, both on-line self-paced as well as formally administrated.
Use of the Internet for On-Line presentations.
Practical in class exercises will provide students with an opportunity to obtain insight into practical business applications.
It is especially important that students come to class on time and participate actively in any and all class activities. If a class computer demonstration has started, students who arrive late will be asked to wait outside the lab until instructed to come in. It is also very important that all students bring to class their textbook and a memory key.

Good Academic Standing in the College: To be in good standing in the College and be permitted to register for the following semester, a pre-university student must have passed at least 4 courses in the previous semester. Many programs have very specific additional requirements for student success, and these requirements are made know to students in program requirement documents and in the Student Academic Standing and Advancement

Cheating and plagiarism: Any form of cheating or plagiarism will result in a grade of zero on the test or assignment, and a letter from the teacher will be placed in your file. A repeated offence may lead to even more serious consequences. Please consult the Vanier Student
Writing Guide, the Vanier College Catalogue, the Student Handbook and your teacher for more information.

Religious holy days: Students whose religious obligations require them to be absent from the
College on a holy day not formally recognized in the College calendar must inform their teachers, in writing, during the first week of classes, of the particular date(s) and times of the religious holy days on which they must be absent. Absences approved in this manner are considered to be excused absences. Students are responsible for material covered in the classes and labs they miss.
My classroom and lab policies:
No playing of games on the computer.
Eating or drinking is not permitted in the classroom or lab.
Calculators may not be borrowed during a test.
A properly documented medical reason is the only acceptable excuse for missing a class quiz, assignment or test.
Pagers and cell phones are to be turned off during class. Students ignoring this policy may be asked to leave the class.
Lateness to class is unacceptable. Students arriving late will wait at the door until the teacher indicates they may enter.
Leaving early during a class is also unacceptable unless this has been cleared with the teacher before class starts.
Regular attendance is highly recommended if you intend to succeed in this course.
For missed class handouts, announcements, class marks, and links to other course related items, go on LEA and look up this course.
