PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Project Management, Data Architect, and Senior Consultant
1986 - 2006
New England Medical Center - New England Quality Care Alliance
01/05 - 04/06



I project managed a SQL Server/dot net project to develop federal HEDIS measures and a
patient registry. I served as the data architect, query writer and project manager.
Includes extensive data transformations of claims, enrollment, and provider data into a
SQL Server 2005 database.
This is a web-based reporting system to help physicians meet their Harvard-Pilgrim,
Tufts Health Plan, and Blue Cross quality objectives under Federal guidelines.
Pfizer

I worked with the drug discovery area on chemistry- and biology-based enterprise entities
that reach across the corporation. 21 CFR 11 compliance was sometimes required.
I also reviewed data models across Pfizer to determine if they meet the corporate
standards. ERWin and ModelMart were used in this mostly Oracle activity.
Casewise Corporate Modeler used for conceptual data modeling and process modeling
including case studies.
This was mostly an Oracle environment. My mission included modifying Erwin models
to recognize unique Oracle data structures and materialized views.

SQL Server DBA Tasks.
T-SQL stored procedure programming.
Data Modeling of self-administration system in ERWin
Report Subsystem debugging and performance tuning of SQL Server database.
Textron Financial
11/03-05/04
 Completed data map of eight feeds from commercial loan and lease transaction systems
including SQL Server and UNIX based FTP data plus the general ledger system feeding
into SAS Data sets associated with the Textron Financial Data Warehouse Phase II.
 Validated SAS Data feeds and tested embedded SQL queries within the SAS
programming environment. Also worked with traditional SAS programs in a UNIX
environment and with Korn-based scripts.
 Validated reports being developed in SAS against corporate accounting systems running
in a mainframe environment. Built special reports in Microsoft Access to balance against
SAS data sets.
 Documented the consolidation of data processes from the disparate loan systems into the
central data warehouse. This included the analysis of the inbound data consolidation
programs written in various languages, the study of the actual rows and columns of data
being mapped into the central GL Ledger-based hierarchy, and new data feeds being
developed by other vendors.
 Developed methodologies to validate the data being consolidated into the central
warehouse including SQL queries. The overall database was of moderate size, in the
several million-row category
Teknor Apex Company

 SQL Server DBA – Maintained and tuned SQL Server databases in the ten million plus
row size (multiple gigabyte range). My responsibilities included the design of backups
and restores, the application of security patches, and monitoring the handling of viruses.
 Set up complex Microsoft Data Transformation Service- and FTP-based mainframe and
AS/400 feeds to the SQL Server data warehouse for CRM, financial and production
planning purposes. This was the crunch area for this client. Microsoft ETL tools were
used for the processing of FTP and AS/400 data.
 Built EDI interfaces to pass X12-based EDI purchase order and fulfillment transactions
from major buyers as well as custom interfaces to the SQL Server from distributors and
major retail chains. Supported supply-side reporting systems.
 Automated the transformation of Impromptu reports into Cognos Power Play cubes.
 To a large extent, this was a team building and mentoring project. At first, I filled in for
the departing DBA. Then I built a team around the EDI process as it unfolded. I
mentored a junior person who then took over as the DBA. At that point, I had
successfully completed the tasks to be done and I moved on to the next assignment.
Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation – Various Database

network tying tribes together for common reporting of health data and supply ordering.
 Used ERwin for data design. Business modeling with Visio.

