PepsiCo provided the following response:
“PepsiCo has a global Supplier Code of Conduct that helps ensure that our business operations meet
our global expectations in the areas of labor practices, associate health and safety, environmental
management and business integrity. The Code is being incorporated as part of our contracting
process with key strategic suppliers and has been translated into more than 25 languages. To further
enhance the Code, PepsiCo is rolling out more rigorous processes around accountability,
engagement, risk assessment and mitigation.
PepsiCo believes acting ethically and responsibly is not only the right thing to do, but also the right
thing for our business. Therefore we remain committed to working with our partners and external
organizations like Oxfam. Since 2012, we have been in regular communications with Oxfam. In fact
the president of Oxfam America recently met with senior leadership at PepsiCo to discuss issues of
concern.
If questions arise about the practices of suppliers, we take them seriously and engage to address the
matter. We reached out to the suppliers that Oxfam questioned in their most recent report. The
suppliers have assured us they are in compliance with applicable laws.
While our global Code is robust, we continue to review and strengthen it. As we have shared with
Oxfam, we are evaluating a wide range of policies and programs to ensure a comprehensive
responsible sourcing guideline that addresses land rights in the agricultural supply chain.”
