2006 Extension Award Recipients Linda Brewer , AREC, recently passed the certification exam and is now an SSSA Certified Professional Soil Scientist. She took the ARCPAC exam in October at OSU. (ARCPAC is the certifying board for Agriculture, Biology, Earth and Environmental Sciences). Congratulations Linda. The Landmarks in Conservation DVD, which was produced in Extension & Experiment Station Communication has won an "Award of Distinction" from The Communicator Awards annual Video/Film/Multi-Media competition. This international competition drew more than 3,000 entries and ranks us in the top third of all entries submitted. The awards program's top award is the "Award of Excellence," followed by the "Award of Distinction" and "Honorable Mention." Congratulations to Steve Dodrill and all those who worked on it. This project was supported in part by a donation given to the Extension Service by Charles Ross, retired Extension forester Robin Galloway, Linn County, has been named president of the Oregon Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation. Tom Cook, Extension Turf Specialist, received the Distinguished Service Award by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) at the 2006 GCSAA Education Conference and Golf Industry Show in Atlanta. Along with colleagues from Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming, Larry Lev, AREC, will receive the 2006 Western Agricultural Economics Award for Outstanding Extension Program. Bob Rost, EESC, was elected vice chair of the Distance Education and Instructional Design Special Interest Group (SIG) of the international Association for Communications Excellence (ACE). Jim Males, Animal Science, has been honored by The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural & Environmental Sciences Alumni Society with the Distinguished Alumni Award. This award recognizes alumni who have brought distinction to themselves, their college, department, and institute through their participation, commitment and leadership in their profession and community. John Tanaka, Eastern Oregon Ag Research Center, was named president of the Society for Range Management at the society's annual meeting. Joan Engeldinger, 4-H Afterschool coordinator, was recently elected chair of the Executive Board of OregonASK (www.oregonask.org). The steering committee and executive board of OregonASK is made up of professionals from the Oregon Commission on Children and Families, Oregon School Age Coalition, Office of the Governor, Child Care Division, Oregon Department of Education and many, many more. The Mission of OregonASK is to support, expand and advocate for quality out-of-school time programs and activities for children, youth, and families throughout Oregon. OregonASK received a $40,000 renewable grant from the Mott Foundation to further their collaborative work in Oregon.
