Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is an organization of college-educated women committed to the constructive
development of its members and to public service with a primary focus on the Black community. Information

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
The Lake Charles Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a public service
sorority, gives a $2000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior from its service area of
Calcasieu, Cameron, Jeff Davis, and Allen Parish. This scholarship will be awarded based on
academic performance, community service, and financial need.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for a Delta scholarship, the applicant must:
• Be resident in Calcasieu, Cameron, Jeff Davis, and Allen Parish.
• Be a graduating senior – May 2015
• Enter a four-year university or college as a full-time freshman in the Fall of 2015
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
To be considered for a scholarship, a completed application must be sent by the applicant to the address
listed below, postmarked by March 15, 2015. Applications received after the postmarked date will not be
considered. Your completed application must include the following:
1. Scholarship Application From (Application must be signed and dated).
2. Two Letters of Recommendation
(A) A letter of recommendation must be from Parent/Guardian expressing financial need.
(B) A letter of recommendation from School Counselor, Teacher, Principal, Clergy, Organizational
Sponsor, Friend, or Relative. If the letter is from Counselor, Teacher, Principal, Clergy, or
Organizational Sponsor then it must be on the official letterhead and include the length of time
the person completing the application has known you, in what capacity and additional
comments regarding intellectual ability, maturity, motivation, interpersonal, verbal and writing
skills. Please include contact information for your reference.
3.
An official high school transcript with SAT or ACT scores. The transcript should be mailed directly
*If additional space is needed, use 8 1/2” X 11” paper and attach to application from your school to the
address below, or mailed by you in an envelope sealed by a school official, with the official’s
signature or the school stamp across the sealed portion of the envelope.

Copy of ACT/SAT Scores

Listing of scholarship received and the amounts.
6. Essays addressing the following topic: “Where I See Myself In 10 Years”. Each essay must be typed
and will be evaluated based on content, grammar, and presentation.
Mail all completed applications with Official transcript, ACT/SAT scores, and recommendation letters by
March 15, 2015 to the address below. All information is considered confidential .

Interviews are conducted within six weeks of the deadline for selected applicants. Finalists must participate in an inperson interview to be given further consideration.
