Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc is a National Public Service
Organization engaged in promoting academic excellence, social welfare, and
cultural enrichment. In our local community, Delta’s Five Point Thrust
Program for supporting Educational Development, Economic Development,
International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and
Political Awareness and Involvement is carried out by members of the
Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter.
The Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter’s Scholarship Committee is
responsible for conducting a search and selection campaign to award
scholarships to Philadelphia Area High School Seniors who are interested in
pursuing a college education at a four-year institution. Please encourage the
12th grade students at your location to complete an application and
apply for the 2014-2015 Delta Sigma Theta Scholarship Award. Students,
who are granted a scholarship, have the opportunity for renewal grants based
on a minimum 2.5 college/university GPA.
All completed applications, submitted in a timely manner, will be considered.

Scholarship Information
The Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority annually awards scholarship
assistance to students pursuing higher education. These scholarship awards will help meet the financial
obligation of recipients for one year, with the possibility of future renewals by maintaining a 2.5
college/university GPA.
Steps Needed to Complete Scholarship Packet (check off steps as you complete them)
1. Current Transcript (must include 12th grade data) and Application
_____All parts of the application must be completed (Part I –Part VII)
_____The official high school transcript must be sent directly by your school.
_____ SAT/ACT scores, if not on transcript, must be included by student.
2. College Admissions (PART VI)
_____Applicants should list three (3) Colleges/Universities to which they have
applied. Indicate the status of your application (pending or accepted).
3. Financial Status (Part V)
Each applicant must complete Part V and show evidence of financial status.
_____The financial information; such as a copy of parents’ Current 2013 W-2
Forms, SSI or DPW Statement, etc. must be included in the packet.
* Do not send any completed 2014 U.S. individual 1040 Tax Forms.
4. Goal Statement (Part IV)
_____Each applicant must submit a formal, typed, goal statement essay. Please read the
attached “Completing A Goal Statement” page carefully.
5. Three Letters of Recommendation
_____Each applicant must have three (3) Letters of Recommendation submitted by
persons other than relatives. These letters may be from church affiliates, teachers,
counselors, other school personnel, and/or community leaders.
Interview: The applicants selected for consideration must be available for a personal interview with the
Scholarship Committee. The time, place and date will be announced after the completion of the
application process.
Deadline: All applicants must submit the completed, signed application, including: official transcript,
SAT scores, goal statement, evidence of financial need and letters of recommendation to the Scholarship
Committee by Saturday, February 14, 2015. Applications received after February 14 will be deemed
LATE and will not be considered. If any of the above information is missing or incomplete, the
application packet will be deemed INCOMPLETE. Incomplete packets will not be considered.
