INDIVIDUAL PROJECT PROPOSALS

As the name implies, individual projects will be performed by individuals in class or submitted
as a presentation. If you signed up for presentation, look for Assignments at Blackboard to see
which chapter you should submit from.
The project will involve setting up and solving a homework assignment NOT assigned for the
current week of assignments. THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE FROM EITHER THE STARRED
STANDARD PROBLEMS (*PX.X) OR FROM THE COMPREHENSIVE PROBLEMS
(CX.X). For students presenting, the problem must be from the current chapter. For students
submitting presentations, the problems may only be from chapters 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10.
The full solution methodology will be followed, as described in White Section 1.13.
For presenters, time limit will be 8 minutes: 5 minutes for presentation and 3 minutes for
questions and answers. The presentations are encouraged to be in PowerPoint, but the presenter
will be left to their discretion as how to best present the work. All presentation materials will be
submitted for grading.
All individual projects which were NOT presented to the class will require a final report at the
end of the quarter in the format of the Blackboard template ALONG with a Power Point
presentation based on the work. The presentation should be about 8 minutes long.
The proposal should include: 1) Problem to be solved. 2) A reminder of whether this problem is
to be presented in class or as a report/presentation only. 3) Preliminary idea of how this might
apply to biomedical engineering

GROUP PROJECT PROPOSALS

Group projects will be like the individual projects, but will require the submission of BOTH an
analytical and a computational solution to the problem. THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE FROM
EITHER THE STARRED STANDARD PROBLEMS (*PX.X) OR FROM THE
COMPREHENSIVE PROBLEMS (CX.X). An example of an industry product or known NEED
that would employ the results of such a calculation will be included, along with a discussion of
how this work relates to the biomedical need.
The full solution methodology will be followed, as described in White Section 1.13.
The group will submit both a report in the format presented by the template on Blackboard and a
PowerPoint presentation that would present the work in approximately 12 minutes, with 3
questions from testing. The material can be from any section of the book except for the
introductory Chapter 1.
The resulting presentation should be of approximately 15 minutes: 12 minutes for presentation
and 3 minutes for questions and answers.
The proposal should include: 1) Problem to be solved. 2) A list of the group members. 3)
Preliminary idea of how this might apply to biomedical engineering.

Trial Tutoring Lab

I am thinking of hosting a tutorial time where you could come by, work through some examples
of problems and ask valid questions on the homework (i.e., I won't do your work for you, but I'll
clarify things that are adequate to do so). This could be a time for questions and answers on
methods, etc. Also, by hosting more than one or two students at a time (like office hours), the
questions asked by one student could benefit more than just that student.
The problem is we have tons of material, and just not a lot of classroom hours. Therefore, I am
considering this some "extended office hours" that we could use to try this out.

The presentations to review are in the Course Documents section. Your name is in the left
column and which group of presentations you will be reviewing are in the right hand side
"Reviewing" column.
Submit a review for each of the presentations within that group folder. 30 points possible for this
assignment, all extra credit to be attached to your homework extra credit grade.
These reviews will be electronic, and will be turned on the day of the final exam by noon. E-mail
them to me or put them in the digital drop box.
Have relevant, useful comments (more than your average commenting during in-class
presentations). Ask questions that you would have asked in class.
