Objectives The program is designed to ensure that participants can: Gain a better understanding of key principles for writing effective emails to colleagues and customers; Understand how to organize your emails appropriately and logically; Identify and practice using a variety of functional language that can be incorporated into different emails found in your daily work; Learn how to write emails with a personal style and appropriate tone; Learn how to write emails that reply and convince audience; Provide tips and checklists for writing emails without any miscommunication. Content Analysis of the key principles of writing effective e-mails; Planning and organizing e-mails/understanding your audience and their requirements; Opening and closing e-mails - stating the purpose and finishing politely; Language use for e-mails - language based on functionality; Organizing your message logically - signposting; Your audience - external or internal?; Considering your writing style - level of formality - differences between informal, neutral and formal styles; Achieving a neutral style for e-mails; Tone in e-mails - selecting a decisive or tentative tone; Writing in a positive tone; Avoiding redundancy and old-fashioned jargon; Focus on real-life examples - analysis, rewrite practice exercises, set scenarios - informing, confirming, enquiring, replying to enquiries, reporting, negotiating etc.; Error correction & feedback - common errors; & Tips for writing effective e-mails and memos - writing checklist. Trainer Dirk Haddow Dirk is Language Key's Training Director and oversees the operations both in Hong Kong and China. At 36, Dirk already has a vast wealth of experience in the corporate English training market, having worked in Hong Kong and China for the past 13 years.
