I. Telecommunications( 遠程通信 )
1. It refers to the transmitting and ( collecting ) of information or data over long distances.
2. All telecommunication contains a sender, a medium and a receiver.
3. It provides a fast, convenient and easy way to communicate between users.
4. Data can be transmitted either in analogue( 類比 / 模擬 ) or digital ( 數碼 / 數字 ) form.
5. Examples: Internet, electronic mail, facsimile (fax) and voice mail, TV program.
II. Monitoring and Control Systems in Industry
1. Computer can be used to monitor and control various production processes in industry.
2. Computer is a perfect worker for tedious and ( repetitive ) job.
3. Computerization( 電腦化 ) can ensure better product quality, increase productivity, reduce costs, provide a safer working environment, etc.
III. Embedded System( 嵌入系統 )
1. It is a system which performs only one specific task in one application.
2. It is built-in software in it carrier.
3. It is widely used in home electronic appliance.
4. It is designed for ( non-computer user ) so generally it is easy for user to use.
IV. Robotics ( 機械人學 )
1. Robots are machines which are equipped with sensing instruments for detecting input signals and environmental conditions, and with stored ( programs ) for guidance.

2. Robots able to perform tedious, repetitive, dangerous and high precision jobs.
3. Robots used in assembly line, bomb disposal.
V. Artificial Intelligence(AI: 人工智能 )
1. It attempts to develop computer systems that can ( simulate ) human thought process and actions.
2. Example: recognizing speech and hand writing, computer playing chess with human.
VI. Expert Systems
1. It is a system which mimic( 模仿 ) the ( decision-making ) processes of human experts or professionals.
2. Examples: programmed camera, disease diagnosis.
VII. Computer Assisted Learning (CAL: 電腦輔助學習 )
1. It refers to the use of computer in learning, student can self study by using computer.
2. Simulation: Users can be trained in the simulation generated by the computer. E.g. learning driving car and airplane.
3. Revision: It help students review what they have learned.
4. Self-evaluation: Test or question-and-answer sessions are provided.
VIII. Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI: 電腦輔助教學 )
1. It helps teachers make use of computing technology to improve the teaching quality.
2. Teachers can use teaching software to explain abstract and complicated ideas.
For example: Physics simulations, chemical reaction, mathematics theory.
3. Teachers can use computer applications to create tailor-made teaching aids.

1. It is the combination of all sort of media into one form of presentation such as: text, sound, graphics, ( images ), animation and video.

1. It helps professional to design and produce blueprint and sketch.
