The following frequently asked questions are answered directly. The document is a live document and so,
should the recipient have an issue that does not seem to be addressed, please forward your query to Product
Marketing Manager, Lee Ward at lee.ward@modicon.com . Should these new open issues need to be clarified,
then they shall be added to the document.
1. Has Schneider bought Taylor? – No Schneider Electric has not bought Total Controls, Canada, it has
purchased the exclusive rights to develop, manufacture and sell any products from the “ProWORX” range of
software. In short, Schneider Electric owns the ProWORX product family. Schneider Electric also owns the
brand name “ProWORX”
2. What is the relationship between Total Controls, Canada (now known as Total Control, Canada) and
Schneider Electric? – Schneider Electric owns the ProWORX software, source code and trade assignments,
however, software development will still be undertaken by an exclusive team based at Total Controls
Canada, based in Edmonton, Canada. Schneider administers the activities of that team in accordance with
its priority schedule.
3. Who can sell ProWORX? – ProWORX will be exclusively available through the Schneider Electric sales
channel, either direct or through our distributors.
4. Does the product range include the Allen Bradley software? – No the product range does not include the AB
ProWORX. Total Controls, Canada will still be able to sell that software themselves, however, it will no
longer be able to be called “ProWORX”. For each Taylor/AB package sold, Schneider Electric will receive
credit.
5. Can Schneider Electric sell Taylor/AB software? – No, we are unable to sell this software.
6. Is Taylor SecureWORX part of this deal? – No, this product remains the property of Total Controls, Canada.
7. Is Taylor FX Manager part of this deal? - No, this product remains the property of Total Controls, Canada.
8. What is the current status of the product? – The product is currently Schneider ProWORX Nxt Ver 2.0.
However, a new version, ver 2.10 is due for release in May 2000
9. What happens with distribution? – Out of all of the Taylor distributors World wide, 70% of them are also
Schneider Electric distributors. These guys have no problem. Of the remaining 30%, they all should have
been notified by Taylor of their release from the ability to sell ProWORX within a given time frame.
10. What are the products in the range as part of the initial SE offer? – ProWORX Nxt (On line/off line
development, On line only for maintenance support and ProWORX Lite for Micro and Compact), ProWORX
PLUS (On line/off line development, On line only for maintenance support and ProWORX Lite for Micro and
Compact). There is a list of Multi user products and there are ProWORX Plus products available. Check out
the web site for details, or speak to the local Schneider Electric sales representative.
11. When will the products be available for sale through SE? – All listed products are now on active commercial
availability.
12. From when is the effective date of the agreement?(This agreement refers to the acquisition of the
ProWORX Products from Total Control) – May 13th 1999
13. Will training be available? – Yes, sales related and technical training is available. In the US, contact Square
D. Internationally, check out the Web site under training to see the country contact.
14. Is ProWORX the future of Modsoft, if so, what about ladder logic 984 ? – ProWORX is the future of Modsoft
in that it will replace Modsoft as the 984 LL programming tool
15. Are ProWORX and Concept complementary products in the future? – Naturally, Concept and ProWORX
Nxt will co-exist specifically addressing differing requirements for a programming tool. For obvious example,
those users that want to use IEC1131-3 over 984LL.
16. Will there be translated versions of ProWORX in languages other than English? – Initially ProWORX will
only be available in English for the first year, after which, should the market place clearly demand it, we will
develop to support other languages (German, French and Spanish).
17. What happens with regard to CSP? – CSP will continue to be supported. It will be administered in the
following manner. Contact the ProWORX Support Hot line 1 888 266 8705 and follow the directions for CSP
support

18. What about new CSP quotations? – Again quotations will be generated and forwarded to registered users of
ProWORX products when due for renewal. If your CSP has lapsed for some time and you would like to
renew it, contact the CSP support group on the aforenoted number
19. Who administers CSP? – Contact Ian Hitchins or Sheila Aldrich at Schneider Electric, North Andover
20. Will there be a migration program available for Modsoft users? Yes. A limited time special price is available
to existing Modsoft users wishing to migrate to ProWORX Nxt.
21. Are site licenses available for ProWORX? No site licenses will not be available. However there are multi
user license part numbers available now. Existing Modsoft or Taylor ProWORX site licensees may be
facilitated under their active CSP.
22. How will the owners of existing site licenses be facilitated? Simply, if those users have an existing site
license agreement in place and have active CSP under Taylor or are currently supported via the Modsoft
support program, based upon the number of “Seats” covered under that agreement, ProWORX Nxt can be
supplied. This would be at the migration price for Modsoft users or under the normal active CSP renewal
procedure.
23. Is un-copy protected ProWORX software available? Not in most cases. Software under the “ProWORX”
trade name will not be available without copy protection for single user installations. Site license versions
are unprotected.
24. Is demo software available? Demo software will be available. This is fully functional ProWORX Nxt software
limited only to the amount of ladder logic networks that can be developed (25). Demo software can be
obtained after the launch date from the Schneider Electric sales channel or downloaded from
www.modicon.com
