Examing the direct and indirect economic value of ecosystems – tourism, aquatic sports and
recreation, fishing, land values and direct and indirect expenditure. The project included
proposals for cost recovery
Vietnam, 2005, DANIDA and Ministry of Environment
Assessment and valuation of the economic benefits of creating a marine protected area in
Cu Lao Cham, including options for cost recovery. This included both marine and
terrestrial/forest resources on the island as well as training in environmental and natural
resource economics. The aim was to produce a model of sustainable development which
could be applied to other environmental protection areas of Vietnam.

Project economist working on a strategy for improved environmental management at
provincial level. Specific responsibility for developing recommendations on economic
