Scholarship Description: The objective of the program is to provide opportunities for the
academically meritorious and financially needy students to pursue study in professional
degree courses in the fields of Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture and other related fields in
order to become competent professionals with dedication and commitment to the
development of the community and the country.
Nature of the Program:
The scholarship is an interest-free loan (qard-e-hasan) to students. It covers cost of living,
clothing, books, tuition fees and medical expenses (wholly or partly). Recipients are
therefore required to refund the scholarship in easy installments after expiry of one year of
the completion of graduation or after being settled down in profession whichever is earlier.
This is necessary because the scholarship is a grant from the Bank to the local community
to enable it to sustain into the future to benefit deserving students to enjoy the same
educational opportunity.
Eligibility:
The scholarship is open to the students who are meritorious but financially needy and have
passed SSC (10+2) examination and are desirous to pursue undergraduate professional
studies in session 2011-2012 in one of the fields of study approved under the program.
The Master Degree Courses and the students going abroad for study do not fall within the
purview of the program. Students joining Degree Courses after Diploma will not be
considered for scholarship.
To Qualify for Scholarships, Students should meet the following Requirements:
- Have secured minimum 60% marks in English, Physics, Chemistry and
Biology/Mathematics in SSC (10+2) examination except for Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh,
Karnataka, Kerala and Tamilnadu who should have 70% in the aggregate in above four
subjects.
- Applicants for bachelor courses in BBA + MBA (integrated course) 4 years and LAW have
scored minimum 60% marks in English and optional/elective subjects in SSC (10+2).
- Age not over 24 years and not in receipt of any other scholarship.
- Students or his/her parents are financially weak and unable to pay for his/her education.
Students opting for payment seats need not apply.
- Students benefiting from this scholarship must undertake to serve his/her community and
country on completion of their studies for a period not less than the duration of the
scholarship.

Manufacturing limitations and operational strains placed on wind turbine blades lead to
fatigue and a shortened working life. The advent of flexible, aero elastic blades (rather than
rigid forms) will offer advantages in increasing fatigue life but challenges in geometrical,
structural and aerodynamic characterization. Wind tunnel trials do not scale up well to real
life blades so that a fundamental understanding of the underlying physics is necessary if
innovative large scale flexible blades are to be modeled successfully.
Against this background, the main objectives are:
1. The development of structural dynamic and FEA models for the complete wind turbine
rotor or blades that can handle highly nonlinear effects e.g. from flexible blades with
complex laminated composite and composite sandwich skins and webs;
2.The development of advanced models on rotor and blade aerodynamics, covering full 3D
CFD rotor models, free wake models and improved BEM type models;
3. The advancement of computational mathematical models for the complex fluid-structure
interaction problems that play a critical role in wind-turbine blade design, providing also a
fundamental tool for a better understanding of the underlying physics;
4. To calculate the torque and thrust on the wind turbine generator under different wind
speed and rotor geometry and therefore to predict the material strength needed in different
environment and minimize the damage to the rotor.
5. To predict the rotor speed on varying wind speed, rotor geometry, and rotor load. And to
simulate both transient state and steady state motion of the rotor, finally optimize the
shape of the rotor blade and therefore maximize the power capacity.

collaborative study of Children’s Commissioners and Ombudsmen, or ‘independent children’s
rights institutions’, directed by Professor Thomas with colleagues in Switzerland and the
United States (the Research Group on Ombudspersons for Children – RGOC). The
international study is focused on how models of independent children’s rights institutions
map onto different national contexts, on criteria for independence, and on ways of
measuring impact. This particular project will be looking at the latter question.
The aim is to develop methods and instruments for assessing the impact of independent
children’s rights institutions on children’s lives, on policies for children and young people, on
societal attitudes to children and on children’s participation in society. The research student
will be invited to complete a thorough review of the relevant literature, and then to conduct
an empirical enquiry, targeted on one or more independent children’s rights institutions,
which will be designed to explore and test the reliability and validity of different approaches
to measuring impact.

developing countries. GLOBE computable general equilibrium model and the Social
Accounting Matrix (SAM) representation of Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) database
will be used to simulate various trade liberalization scenarios, depending on the contents of
the preferential trade agreements. The main focus will be on economic effects of such
preferential trade agreements on developing economies. Depending on the applicant’s
research interests, developing countries chosen can either be i-)Latin American, ii-) African
or Asian economies. When deciding about the developing countries, the student needs to
make sure that they are in Global Trade Analysis Project’s (GTAP) database, which is the

The aim of this PhD project is to build on previous work by investigating the psychological
effects of rape on men recruited from a range of settings, such as survivor’s Internet
support groups. The first phase of this project will utilise a range of qualitative and
quantitative psychological measures to assess whether issues such as social support,
psychological intervention, and individual differences can predict which men suffer the most
detrimental psychological effects after rape. A particular aim of this phase will assess how
victim self-blame hampers recovery, and factors that may influence to what extent the
victim blames himself after rape. Such findings inform treatment services on how best to
offer help to survivors. Later phases of this project might compare male victim responses
with those of female victims; such work, somewhat surprisingly, is lacking, yet is timely and
very publishable. Investigating male rape from an international perspective would also be
extremely publishable.

This research initiative will aim to work within the frame of debates on Western
representations of China and on China’s efforts to counter misconceptions of the negative
impact of its rise, analyzing these new cultural contestations in the context of the changing
global power dynamics. From a broad overview of Western and Chinese cultural
representations of China, as it has emerged from subordination after 1949 to rise as an
international power in the world today, the research will focus especially on such
representations in Western and Chinese film/TV output since the 1990s. Highlighting

Climate Project: Given the continuing failure of governments and multilateral treaties to
deliver effective climate outcomes, this project investigates an emerging, but potentially
powerful new ‘actor’ in climate governance regimes both in Australia and globally. These
new actors take the form of climate change civil society movements (eg ‘Get Up’, ‘1 Million
Women’, ‘350.org’ and ‘1010’). The project examines the circumstances under which these
new movements can shape law, policy and practice (eg direct action mechanisms, lobbying
and partnerships) to produce effective and legitimate climate outcomes. The project aims to
develop principles to guide these new movements to better influence climate law regimes
and deliver improved climate outcomes.
Groundwater Project: This project responds to the recent call for a ‘water reform revolution’
to empower communities to collaboratively manage water buy-back and entitlements in
Australia. The project will examine the circumstances under which collaborative forms of
groundwater management are likely to be effective both as a standalone governance
approach and as a component of wider legal and regulatory systems. It aims to provide
necessary guidance and prescription to policy makers so they can deliver this ‘revolution’
and mobilise collaborative groundwater governance to achieve improved environmental
outcomes for Australia.
The successful applicant will join an innovative team of researchers at Macquarie Law School
who are undertaking interdisciplinary research on contemporary issues related to legal
governance and public policy.

Scholarship Description: Applications are invited for a PhD student to work on higher spin
structures on Riemann surfaces and their real forms. The project brings together the theory
of Riemann surfaces and real algebraic geometry and has connections with modern physics.
This is an exciting project in a relatively new area of real algebraic geometry, there is an
opportunity for a student to start original research early within the studentship. The project
is close to the areas of expertise of other members of the pure mathematics division at
Liverpool, namely in singularity theory, algebraic geometry and dynamics. Thus there will be
ample opportunity for the student to interact fruitfully with other graduate students, with
postdoctoral researchers and with members of the department.
In addition to benefiting from individual supervision, the student will be able to take
advantage of a range of masters level modules and research seminars, both within the
University of Liverpool and available via the MAGIC consortium, to obtain a broad
mathematical education at a high level. The project is funded by the Leverhulme Trust.
The studentship provides maintenance of £13,590 p.a. (tax free) plus fees. EU and
international students are eligible, but note that only fees corresponding to the home
student rate will be paid and Non EU students must find the difference from other sources.

Dr. Barbara Mazzolai, aims at developing innovative methodologies and robotic
technologies, new materials, and advanced components, both for the design and
construction of high performance bio-inspired machines and systems at the micro scale, and
for the development of devices for biomedical, environmental, and rescue applications. The
mission of the Center is to generate and promote new scientific and technological
knowledge in the microbiorobotics field, which is fully deployed by inventions deriving from
an interdisciplinary approach to the tackled scientific problems. The scientific activities are
carried out within the Micro Robotics and the Smart Materials Platforms.
The ideal candidate has expertise in one or more of the following areas: organic chemistry,
electrochemistry, biochemistry, and/or analytical chemistry. Previous experiences about
reaction mechanisms and kinetics are also beneficial .He/she will work in a micro
engineering context in close collaboration with engineers/physicians/biologists for the
development of new sensors, actuators and micro robots. In particular, for these new
