A Healthy Heritage?
The traditional Native American diet, rich in protein and vegetables, has
disappeared! Government subsidies of lard and flour created dietary
changes that have led to increased instances of diabetes and heart
disease. Is it possible for the government to subsidize the Native
American diet and preserve its culture? Discover how, by researching the
history and culture of Native Americans around the country. The American Diabetes
Association’s Native American Initiative volunteers could use your recommendations about what
the U.S. government can do that would restore both Native Americans’ heritage and their health.
