Brief overview of the course
The content of the course includes: outline of the contractor’s procedures prior to the submission
of a tender; tendering procedures and contractual arrangements; constituents of unit ratesmaterial, labour, plant and overhead; material wastages; build-up of unit rates- excavation and
earthworks, concrete work and block work.
Course objective
To expose students to the skill of estimating for the purpose of tendering
Method of lecture delivery
Lectures would be given on how to estimate the cost of construction project. Assignments would
be given at the end of each module in order to boost students understanding of the course. Model
answers would be provided for the assignments after completion, which would be discussed in
class for the purpose of providing feedback.

Ground rules and regulations
Penalties for late submission of assignments are as follows:
1. Where the assignment is submitted up to three days after the original deadline (or any
formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for the piece
of work will be deducted from the mark.
2. Where the piece of work is submitted more than three days after the original deadline (or
any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.
Students are strongly advised to ensure that assignments are submitted by the relevant deadline.

in the Nigerian construction industry.
