Zzish is one of the hottest new startups on the London tech scene. Backed by both the
world’s leading tech accelerator, Techstars, and the government’s Technology Strategy
Board, Zzish is changing the face of education with a platform to help developers build the
next generation of mobile, gamified educational apps.
If you have a passion to change the world through technology, have what it takes to create
mobile games that get installed by tens of millions of people and you are an entrepreneurial,

looking for enthusiastic and committed mobile, web and back end developers to join us at our
base in Warner Yard, Clerkenwell. You may have several years of experience or you may

For our software roles, you will be someone who lives and breathes coding and someone who
is happy to code from dusk till dawn when in the zone and working on something really cool!
You understand that problems have multiple solutions and can evaluate them to choose the
best one. You also understand algorithm, code efficiency and can optimise your code for
performance. You are able and willing to learn new technologies and approaches rapidly.
Finally, you will enjoy working in a small team, initially within a wider program, where you are
expected to take ownership and contribute at all levels.
At our core we have the Zzish platform, a state-of-the-art big data backend service that lets
mobile educational app developers add rich features to their apps in days instead of many
months. Our own two apps sit on this platform. Factzz is our reference app, a leading
multiplayer quiz game that uses social game dynamics to make learning more fun. The Zzish
Learning Center is our app for students, teachers and parents enabling them to see data and
analytics from all apps on the platform in one central place.

1. Mobile Apps Developer - iOS
As our iOS applications developer you will be responsible for building the platform SDK for
iOS developers and implementing the Factzz and the Zzish Learning Center apps for iPhone
and iPad. It’s an important role covering a wide range of iOS technology from rich animated
user interfaces to real-time push client-server communications. The ideal candidate would
have the following characteristics:
* Fluent in Objective C for iOS (knowledge of other development languages desirable).
* Delivered one or more iOS applications to market.
* An advocate for good software processes including coding standards and test driven development.
* Passionate about writing software (ideally you dream in code).
* Self-starting and committed.
* Someone who can be relied upon to get things done on time and to a high degree of quality.
* First or upper second class degree in Computer Science from a respected university.
* Eligible to work in the United Kingdom without restrictions.
* Available to work in central London from April (or May at the latest).
2. Mobile Apps Developer - Android
As our Android applications developer you will be responsible for building the platform SDK
for Android developers and implementing the Factzz and the Zzish Learning Center apps for
Android devices. It’s an important role covering a wide range of Android technology from rich
animated user interfaces to real-time push client-server communications. The ideal candidate
would have the following characteristics:
* Fluent in Java for Android (knowledge of other development languages desirable).
* Delivered one or more Android applications to market.
* An advocate for good software processes including coding standards and test driven development.
* Passionate about writing software (ideally you dream in code).
* Self-starting and committed.
* Someone who can be relied upon to get things done on time and to a high degree of quality.
* First or upper second class degree in Computer Science from a respected university.
* Eligible to work in the United Kingdom without restrictions.

3. Front End - Desktop & Web App
You will be skilled at pulling together rich, interactive web interfaces in CSS and Javascript
and writing applications that communicate with servers. You will be familiar with HTML5
offline features and be able to write web apps that work when no connection to the internet is
present. The ideal candidate would have the following characteristics:
* Fluent in Javascript, CSS and HTML5 and capable in PHP or Python development languages.
* Familiar with source control tools such as Git and deployment tools such as Jenkins
* Delivered one or more web applications to market.
* An advocate for good software processes including coding standards and test driven development.
* Passionate about writing software (ideally you dream in code).
* Self-starting and committed.
* Someone who can be relied upon to get things done on time and to a high degree of quality.
* First or upper second class degree in Computer Science from a respected university.

4. Back End Developer - NoSQL & Big Data
You will be skilled at pulling together big data into a suitable database for both our front
end/mobile developers and the external developers to draw upon. You will be familiar with the

5. Back End Developer - API Design & Java
Our goal is to provide THE platform for mobile social educational games that can be hooked
into by any app developer. You will be skilled at building back end systems to maintain social
graphs, recording game play events and crunching data for analysis. The ideal candidate
would have the following characteristics:
* Fluent in Java/Scala and PHP or Python development languages.
* Familiar with big data technologies such as Apache Hadoop and Apache Hive, NoSQL databases
(such as Cassandra) and Kafka
* Familiar with source control tools such as Git and deployment tools such as Jenkins
* Delivered the back end for one or more web applications to market.
* An advocate for good software processes including coding standards and test driven development.
* Passionate about writing software (ideally you dream in code).
