A&P – Cell Respiration / Photosynthesis Unit Outline
Cellular Respiration Eye Text: p135-155
Photosynthesis Eye Text: p159-175
Outline the chapter(s) above focusing on the objectives
below.
Key Objectives:
A. Define cellular respiration and write a summary
reaction for aerobic respiration.
B. Describe the structure and function of the
mitochondrion.
C. List and give a brief review of the three stages of
aerobic respiration, indicate where each stage takes
place in a eukaryotic cell, and add up the energy
captured in each stage.
D. Compare and contrast aerobic and anaerobic
pathways used by cells to extract free energy from
nutrients.
1. Compare and contrast alcohol and lactic acid
fermentation.
E. Define photosynthesis and write a summary reaction for photosynthesis.
F. Describe the structure and function of the chloroplast.
G. Explain the relationship between the photosynthetic pigments and the wavelength of light
(color of light).
H. Identify and explain the tool used to separate the pigments within a leaf.
I. Distinguish between the light-dependent reactions and the Calvin cycle (carbon fixation / lightindependent reactions) of photosynthesis.
J. Describe how carbon dioxide availability, sunlight, and temperature can affect photosynthesis.
K. Relate cellular respiration to photosynthesis.
Pre-Unit Assignment:
 Outline the above objectives. Once the unit is complete, all objectives should be thoroughly
targeted.
