Constitution Day Project – Honors Classes
Students will be broken down into mixed ability groups and given the “Create a
Naturalization Test” handout. Students will work in small groups to create a power point
presentation of their Naturalization test. After each group has presented their test questions
to the class, all presentations will be merged into one power point presentation (duplicate
questions will be removed at this time). The honors class will then present their
Naturalization test to junior classes and each junior will write down the answers as the test is
given. Juniors will then swap papers for scoring purposes. High scoring juniors will receive
extra credit, candy, or any other reward that the instructor deems appropriate.
This activity is designed to inspire and educate current civics students as well as to give
emphasis to the importance of Civics education to recent civics “graduates” (the junior class).
(H) Honors. Honors students will complete a cross cycle/over the trade assignment.
Connecticut Technical High School System
CIVICS/AMERICAN GOVERNMENT 11/2/2010
This activity will reactivate prior knowledge for the juniors as well as prepare the
sophomores for the DWTA for trimester 1.
Create a Naturalization Test
Based upon your knowledge of citizenship and the roots of American
government, create a naturalization test. This test should include questions that
you believe ALL Americans should know as citizens of this country. Use your
text books chapters 3-4 for help as well as previous knowledge of the founding
of the United States.
*The test should have AT LEAST 20 questions
*Test questions should be thoughtful not simplistic. Ex. Why are there 50
stars on the flag? = too simple. What do the stars and stripes on the flag
represent? = thoughtful.
*Please include an answer key along with a list of questions.
*Questions should be either short answer, fill in the blank, or multiple
choice – no essay questions please.
*Use the scoring guide provided for grading.
