Girls Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts requires all troops to perform at least one service project annually. **The Medfield Service Unit requests each troop to complete at least two service projects annually. Email your 1st, 2nd and 3rd project choices to the Service Coordinator, receive confirmation that project is available, then contact organization directly to coordinate details of project. $Available funds$! If the cost of your project will be more than $5 per girl in your troop, funds may be available up to $75 per project. Angel Run is on Sunday, December 4th, 2 pm and is a 5K (3.1 miles) course beginning and ending at the Wheelock elementary school. Money raised assists Medfield families in need and a scholarship for MHS class of 2012, Natasha’s class. Spend some time with the animals, help clean or whatever Judy may need done. You must be 16 years old OR accompanied by a parent or adult supervisor. Bring Missy the Manx cat to visit the people at the Thomas Upham House. Missy is very sweet and the residents at the Upham house love to have visits from her but she needs supervision and a ride! Do a food/supply drive for: paper towels, cat & kitten food ( both canned & dry), cat beds, catnip toys for cats, pet-safe cleaning products (such as Seventh Generation available at Shaw & Roche Bros.), inexpensive kitty litter (NOT THE SCOOPABLE) & dog food-contact Judy for any specific needs. Sew catnip pouches for shelter cats. Work with shelter adult contact to make them. Raise awareness of Shelter by distributing flyers in neighborhoods. Flyer should include info about available pets, and what to do if pet is lost. Scouts can use photos of current residents. Collect old towels for the dogs & cats to sleep on. Make “Doggie Trail Mix” (5-6 types of dry kibble/dog biscuits) packaged in sandwich-size Ziploc bags for shelter to use for fundraising during events held at shelter throughout the year. Speak with Judy for dates and deadlines. Shelter will have small brochure to add to bags. Run a food drive within the troop (bring food to meetings) or in your neighborhoods. Call food cupboard for specific needs for that month. Troop given tour at delivery. Need help with US Postal Food Drive in MAY! Mail carriers will pick up deliveries around town and the cupboard needs help unloading, sorting and shelving items. Troop creates an on property treasure hunt. Troop comes up with clues, map and makes a “treasure box” with a stamp. □ Nest Box Monitoring Program – Fork Factory Brook, Medfield. Troops monitor Bluebirds with simple weekly data collection. Duties easily split amongst troop members. Fun way to spend an hour each week to help a feathered friend! Monitoring periods: April-June OR June-September. □ Birds and the Bees at Powisset Farm – Build a bluebird or bee house to encourage native wildlife. Plan a visit in December for Christmas Caroling with the residents. Plan to make holiday cards together. Need 42-45 tray favors for major holidays or seasons.
