Who Wants to Be a Winner Instructions To set up for classroom use: This activity is best done in a classroom setting with one computer sent through a television or LCD projector, however could be used with each student at his or her own station in the lab. Decide on fifteen questions, one correct answer and three incorrect answers for the game. Try to rate the questions from the easiest to the hardest. The easiest questions should be the first ones and build to the harder ones. Position your mouse pointer after Type question here and click. Backspace until the letters are gone. Type your question. Position your mouse pointer after Answer and click. Backspace until the word Answer is gone. Type the answers. On the following slide, enter the question again. However, only enter the correct answer in the Answer space. Delete the spaces that contain the incorrect answers. Repeat the last two steps through all fifteen questions. Save your game by clicking File and Save As 1 Who Wants to Be a Winner Instructions Choose where to save your game at the top of the screen. Name your game – be specific, such as Ch1 Who Wants to be a Winner at the lower middle part of the screen in the area for File name. Click Save at the lower right corner. To play in the classroom: Open the program and push F5 on the computer or click Slide Show at the top of the screen and View Show. Project the game over a television or LCD projector. It could also be given to the students to use on computers in the lab. Before playing, determine which student or small team (2 or 3) of students will be the first contestant. The remaining students could guess the answer at their desk and participate as the studio audience, and phone a friend. The computer operator will click from one question slide to the answer slide. If desired, discussion could follow after revealing the answer. From the answer slide, the computer operator will click again to show the next available dollar level as shown to the right. From here, they click again to reveal that dollar level’s question. The computer operator will click to the first question slide. Someone could read the question aloud. After the contestant has given the “final answer”, click again to reveal the possible answers. Someone could read the answers aloud as they appear on the screen. This continues until the contestant(s) incorrectly answers the question. 2 Who Wants to Be a Winner Instructions To use the (50:50), the student announces they wish to use it. The moderator will verbally tell them two of the incorrect answers leaving only one possible incorrect answer and one correct answer. To use the (Phone a friend), the student announces they wish to use it. The moderator will ask them to choose one student in the audience. The chosen student will listen to the question and possible answers one more time and have 30 seconds to give an answer. The contestant then gives their “final answer.” To use the (Poll the audience) the student announces they wish to use it. The moderator will read the question and possible answers to the audience and ask them to raise their hands if they believe the answer is A, then B, then C, then D. The contestant will see what the more popular answer is then give their “final answer.” Note: Unfortunately, the icons for 50:50, phone a friend, and poll the audience will not appear used after use. Please remember throughout the rest of the activity when the contestants have used these chances. Each one should only be used once! 3
