Name:_____________________ Per:_______________ Date:_____________ 1 Cell Analogy Performance Task 1. The student will design a metaphor comparison between a cell and an object of his/her choice. The metaphor must contain all the structures found in a plant and animal cell. These include the following: Structures in Animal and Plant cells o 1. cell membrane, 2. nucleus, 3. nucleolus, 4.nuclear membrane, 5. cytoplasm, 6. vacuoles 7. mitochondria, 8. DNA (hereditary material, genetic material) 9. endoplasmic reticulum, 10. Golgi bodies, 11. lysosomes, 12. ribosomes Structures in Plant cells only: o 1. cell wall, 2. chloroplasts, 3. chlorophyll 2. Metaphor must contain drawing of plant cell and object of your choice showing the comparisons between the two 3. The structures of the cell and part being compared to must be labeled on each drawing. 4. Metaphor must be done on white poster-board 5. Metaphor must be detailed and colored. 6. The student will use the “A Cell is like a ______” graphic organizer to help you plan and explain how each part labeled on the visual compares. 7. See (pg.3) grading rubric for criteria of task and point values. (Scroll down) Checklist: 1. ____ 15 cell parts are included on the visual 2. ____ The part of the metaphor that corresponds to each cell part is logical 3. ____ The visual is colored 4. ____ The visual is neat 5. ____ The structures are labeled 6. ____ The visual and all paper work have your name on them 7. ____ The graphic organizer is filled out for all cell parts 8. ____ An explanation is given for each part to explain how it relates to the metaphor Name:_____________________ Per:_______________ Date:_____________ 2 “A Cell is like a ____________.” Cell organelle Cell Membrane Nucleus Cytoplasm Mitochondria Nucleolus Ribosomes Lysosomes Golgi Bodies Endoplasmic Reticulum DNA (Chromosomes) Nuclear membrane Vacuoles Chloroplasts Chlorophyll Cell wall Structure Explanation of analogy Name:_____________________ CRITERIA Cell structures are represented to related parts of the metaphor Metaphor justification explanation of how the parts of the metaphor related to cell structures that demonstrates understanding Classroom Presentation Visual of metaphor is presented and explained that demonstrates understanding of cell structures Preplanning of graphic organizer Must be completed before beginning visual; cell part location on visual and explanation are completed Per:_______________ Date:_____________ Does not meet the standard Less than 8 structures are represented accurately Approaching the standard 8-9 structures are represented accurately Meets the standard 1 point Little or no explanation of cell structures and how they relate to the metaphor 2 points Some evidence of understanding of cell structures and how they relate to metaphor 3 points True evidence of explanation and understanding of 10-14 cell structures and how they relate to metaphor 4 points Explanation of all 15 cell structures that show understanding of how each is related to the metaphor 1 point Fewer than 8 cell structures are presented in visual and little understanding is demonstrated 2 points 8-9 cell structures are presented in visual and some understanding is evident 3 points 10-14 cell structures are presented in visual and a good understanding is demonstrated 4 points All 15 cell structures are presented in visual and a thorough understanding of all 15 structures is evident 1 point Less than 8 cell structures are completed on graphic organizer “A Cell is like ____” 2 points 8-9 cell structures are completed on the graphic organizer “A Cell is like ____” 3 points 10-14 cell structures are completed on the graphic organizer “A Cell is like ____” 4 points All 15 cell structures are completed on the graphic organizer “A Cell is like ____” 1 point 2 points 3 points 4 points 10-14 structures are represented accurately Exceeds the standard All 15 structures are represented accurately 3 Points earned Total ______
