(Summary of Christianity in Crisis)

Heresies of the “Faith Movement”
My purpose in writing this is to provide for myself and others a concise (although the
more I type the more relative that is becoming) presentation of what the Faith Movement (cited
throughout as FM) is teaching. Much of my study has been from the book, “Christianity in
Crisis: 21st Century” by Hank Hanegraaff (cited throughout as HH). I have also drawn on
various other sources that are cited. I am also indebted to John Piper’s teaching which, while not
necessarily cited, does provide a framework for many of my thoughts.
As I started my studies I did not realize the depth of heresy that is taught by the Faith
Movement. (heresy—“ adherence to a religious opinion contrary to church dogma” (MerriamWebster’s Collegiate Dictionary); “Later Christian usage (from late second century A.D.)
understood ‘heresy’ to indicate deviation from the accepted teaching or practice of the dominant
Christian community.” (Harper’s Bible Dictionary)) What the Faith Movement teaches is a
“deviation from the accepted teaching…of the dominant Christian community.” Does this in
itself make it wrong? No. However, when compared with Scripture, the Faith Movement’s
misrepresentation (at best) and contradiction (at worst), both of which occur, do make it wrong.
Orthodox Christian teaching is not in itself the litmus test for truth—the Bible is. However, it
does provide a good starting point because it has stood the test of time while using Scripture as
the framework for what is taught.
While this might sound like a bold and condemning statement, it is only made from a
standpoint of humble recognition of who God is and who I am in light of that. It is also made
from a loving desire that you who read this are strengthened in your faith in Jesus Christ; that
your heart and mind affirm and praise God for who He is; and that you are warned of the
deceptive philosophies taught by the Faith Movement.
Four Primary Heresies of the Faith Movement
I. Deification of Man
Summary of Faith Movement teaching
Humans are little gods. Created in the image of God means that we are of the same class as God
and made in terms equal with God. We are exact duplications of God.
Summary of Orthodox Teaching
“Far from being a reproduction of God, humanity is more correctly portrayed as a reflection of
God. That humans are created in God’s image simply means that they share, in a finite and
imperfect way, the communicable attributes of God. Among such attributes are personality,
spirituality (John 4:24), rationality, including knowledge and wisdom (Colossians 3:10), and
morality, including goodness, holiness, righteousness, love, justice, and mercy (Ephesians
4:22ff).” (HH 140)
Faith Movement Statements
Hagin: Man “was created on terms of equality with God, and he could stand in God’s presence
without any consciousness of inferiority…God has made us as much like Himself as
possible…He made us the same class of being that He is Himself…Man in the realm of God. He
lived on terms equal with God…[T]he believer is called Christ…That’s who we are; we’re
Christ!” (HH 132)
1
Copeland: “God’s reason for creating Adam was His desire to reproduce Himself…He was not a
little like God. He was not almost like God. He was not subordinate to God even.” (HH 132)
Copeland: “You don’t have a god in you; you are one” (HH 134
Hinn: “I am a ‘little messiah’ walking on earth” (HH 134)
Hinn: “Adam was a super being when God created him…First of all, the Scriptures declare
clearly that he had dominion over the fowls of the air, the fish of the sea—which means he used
to fly…The word ‘dominion’ in the Hebrew clearly declares that if you have dominion over a
subject, that you do everything that subject does. In other words, that subject, if it does
something you cannot do, you don’t have dominion over it. I’ll prove it further. Adam not only
flew, he flew to space. He was—with one thought he would be on the moon.” (HH 141)
(HH’s response: “If one were to draw out Hinn’s comments to their illogical conclusions,
not only would Adam be able to fly like a bird, but he would also be able to spin webs like a
spider, hibernate like a bear, and photosynthesize like an eggplant!” 141)
Hinn: “God came from heaven, became a man, made man into little gods, went back to heaven as
a man. He faces the Father as a man. I face devils as the son of God…Quit your nonsense!
What else are you? If you say, ‘I am,’ you’re saying I’m a part of Him, right? Is He God? Are
you His offspring? Are you His children? You can’t be human! You can’t! You can’t! God
didn’t give birth to flesh…You said, ‘Well, that’s heresy.’ No, that’s your crazy brain saying
that.” (HH 153)
Charles Capps: “God duplicated Himself in kind!...Adam was an exact duplication of God’s
kind!” (HH 133)
Myles Munroe: “You have the same nature as God Himself. You create your own world the
same way God creates His. He speaks and things happen, you speak and they happen.” (HH
142)
Scripture:
Isaiah 43:10-13
10 "You are my witnesses," declares the LORD,
"and my servant whom I have chosen,
so that you may know and believe me
and understand that I am he.
Before me no god was formed,
nor will there be one after me.
ISA 43:11
I, even I, am the LORD,
and apart from me there is no savior.
ISA 43:12
I have revealed and saved and proclaimed-I, and not some foreign god among you.
You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "that I am God.
2
ISA 43:13
Yes, and from ancient days I am he.
No one can deliver out of my hand.
When I act, who can reverse it?"
Isaiah 44:6-8
6 "This is what the LORD says-Israel's King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty:
I am the first and I am the last;
apart from me there is no God.
ISA 44:7
Who then is like me? Let him proclaim it.
Let him declare and lay out before me
what has happened since I established my ancient people,
and what is yet to come-yes, let him foretell what will come.
ISA 44:8
Do not tremble, do not be afraid.
Did I not proclaim this and foretell it long ago?
You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me?
No, there is no other Rock; I know not one."
Exodus 9:13-14 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Get up early in the morning,
confront Pharaoh and say to him, `This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews,
says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me, 14 or this time I will send the
full force of my plagues against you and against your officials and your people, so
you may know that there is no one like me in all the earth.
Deuteronomy 32:36-39
36 The LORD will judge his people
and have compassion on his servants
when he sees their strength is gone
and no one is left, slave or free.
DT 32:37
He will say: "Now where are their gods,
the rock they took refuge in,
DT 32:38
the gods who ate the fat of their sacrifices
and drank the wine of their drink offerings?
Let them rise up to help you!
Let them give you shelter!
DT 32:39
"See now that I myself am He!
There is no god besides me.
I put to death and I bring to life,
I have wounded and I will heal,
3
and no one can deliver out of my hand.
Made in God’s Image
Genesis 1:26-27 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let
them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the
earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God created man in his
own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
 “likeness” (demuth)—“defines and limits the other word translated as ‘image’ (tselem)
...’to avoid the implication that man is a precise copy of God, albeit miniature.’” (HH
139)
If we are exact duplicates of God, then God must be a human (see next section).
II. Demotion of God
Summary of Faith Movement Teaching
God is on par with humans in terms of who he is. He has a physical body that is just a little
bigger than ours. Since we are created in God’s image, we are a duplicate of who he is. “It
seems that the Faith teachers have arrived at their physical God by erroneously taking verses that
figuratively describe God in human (anthropomorphic) terms and reading them literally.” HH
408)
Summary of Orthodox Teaching
God is a spirit and not a physical person. God is not limited in physical size as humans are. The
earth and the heavens are not able to contain God.
Faith Movement Statements
T.D. Jakes “God said, ‘I wanted to see what I looked like, so I made you [Adam] to be in My
image. You have My DNA. You are created out of Me. You are a derivative of Me. You are
My picture in the earth.” (HH 143)
Copeland: “God is not some creature that stands twenty-eight feet tall, and He’s got hands, you
know, as big as basketballs. That’s not the kind of creature He is.” God is “a being that is very
uncanny, the way He’s very much like you and me…a Being that stands somewhere around sixtwo to six-three, that weights somewhere in the neighborhood of ca couple of hundred pounds,
little better, [and] has a [hand] span of nine inches across.” (HH 144)
Hinn: “Man, I feel revelation knowledge already coming on here. Lift your hands. Something
new is going to happen here today…Holy Spirit, take over in the name of Jesus…” Each member
of the trinity “is a triune being by Himself. If I can shock you—and maybe I should—there’s
nine of them.” (HH 146) Hinn later stated, “That was a very dumb statement…I told my church
the very next week that the statement was wrong.” (HH—“After further prodding, Hinn
acknowledged that God had nothing to do with his revelation. Rather, says Hinn, it was
something he read somewhere.” HH-146).
Scripture

Isaiah 40—All of it. (“Rather than reducing God to the dimensions of man, Isaiah
goes to great lengths to underscore the difference between the creator and His
creation.” Hank Hanegraaff, 145)
Hosea 11:9
I will not carry out my fierce anger,
nor will I turn and devastate Ephraim.
For I am God, and not man-the Holy One among you.
I will not come in wrath.
John 4:24 Jesus to the Samaritan woman at the well, “God is spirit, and his
worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."
1 Kings 8:27 "But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest
heaven, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built!”
Jeremiah 23:23-24
23 "Am I only a God nearby,"
declares the LORD,
"and not a God far away?
JER 23:24
Can anyone hide in secret places
so that I cannot see him?"
declares the LORD.
"Do not I fill heaven and earth?"
declares the LORD.
Acts 7:48-50 But it was Solomon who built the house for him. 48 "However, the
Most High does not live in houses made by men. As the prophet says: `Heaven is my
throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build for me?
says the Lord.
Or where will my resting place be? 50 Has not my hand made all these things?'”
III. Deification of Satan
Summary of Faith Movement Teaching
Satan tricked Adam and Eve into selling their godhead right to the earth to Satan. Satan became
god of this world; he has the legal rights to the earth and all its inhabitants. Satan is as much
divine as God is and the two are in a cosmic fight for the control of the universe.
Summary of Orthodox Teaching
Satan is not divine; he is not equal to God. Satan is a created being and is a fallen angel. “Satan
may be described as the prince of this (not of the) world (John 16:11), but orthodoxy has always
affirmed that Satan is a finite creature who is ultimately subject to the will of his infinite Creator
(Psalm 103:10-21).” (Hank Hanegraaff, 154)

FM Statements
Copeland: “God’s on the outside looking in. HE doesn’t have any legal entrée into the earth.
The thing don’t belong to Him. You see how sassy the devil was in the presence of God in the
book of Job? God said, ‘Where have you been?’ Wasn’t any of God’s business. He [Satan]
didn’t even have to answer if he didn’t want to…God didn’t argue with him a bit! You see, this
is the position that God’s been in…Might say, ‘Well, if God’s running things, He’s doing a lousy
job of it.’ He hadn’t been running ‘em, except when He’s just got, you know, a little bit of a
chance.” (HH 151)
Scripture
Psalm 24:1
The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;
Psalm 50:10-12
for every animal of the forest is mine,
and the cattle on a thousand hills.
PS 50:11
I know every bird in the mountains,
and the creatures of the field are mine.
PS 50:12
If I were hungry I would not tell you,
for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
Genesis 18:25 Far be it from you to do such a thing--to kill the righteous with the
wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the
Judge of all the earth do right?"
IV. Demotion of Christ
Summary of Faith Movement Teaching
Jesus Christ was a mere mortal man. We, had we known what He knew, could have also atoned
for sin. Jesus never claimed to be God, He just claimed that He walked with God and that God
was in Him.
Summary of Orthodox Teaching
Jesus Christ is eternally existent—He has always been God and will always be God. In His
incarnation He “set aside the prerogative for independently using His divine attributes when He
took on the limitations of humanity” (Hanegraaff, 160). However, he did not cease being God
nor did lose any aspect of being fully divine. Not only was Jesus God, but He also claimed to be
God.
Faith Movement Statements

Copeland: “The Spirit of God spoke to me. And He said, ‘Son, realize this’—now follow me in
this; don’t let your tradition trip you up—He said, ‘Think this way: a twice-born man whipped
Satan in his own domain.’ And I threw my Bible down…I said, ‘What?!’ He said, ‘A born-again
man defeated Satan. The firstborn of many brethren defeated him.’ He sai, ‘You are the very
image of the very copy of that one.’ I said, ‘Goodness gracious sakes alive.’ I began to see what
had gone on in there [hell], and I said, ‘Well, now, You don’t mean, You couldn’t dare mean that
I could have done the same thing?’ He said, ‘Oh Yeah. If you’d known…had the knowledge of
the Word of God that He did, you could have done the same thing because you’re a reborn man
too.’” (HH 159)
Copeland: Christ spoke to him and said: “They crucified me for claiming that I was God. But I
didn’t claim I was God; I just claimed I walked with Him and that He was in Me. Hallelujah.”
(When challenged, Copeland retorted, “I didn’t say Jesus wasn’t God, I said He [Jesus] didn’t
claim to be God when He lived on the earth. Search the Gospels for yourself. If you do, you’ll
find what I say is true.” (HH 160-161)
Scripture
Colossians 2:9 “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form,”
John 10:30-33
“I and the Father are one."
31 Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him, 32 but Jesus said to them, "I have
shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do you stone
me?"
33 "We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews, "but for blasphemy,
because you, a mere man, claim to be God."
John 5:16-18
So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jews persecuted him. 17
Jesus said to them, "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am
working." 18 For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him; not only was
he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making
himself equal with God.
Mark 14:61-64
Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"
62 "I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of
the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."
63 The high priest tore his clothes. "Why do we need any more witnesses?" he asked.
64 "You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?"
Faith in Faith vs. Faith in God
Summary of Faith Movement Teaching:
“Faith is a force; words are the containers of the force; and through the force of faith, people can
create their own realities.” (Hank Hanegraaff’s description of Faith Movement, 96)
7
“The powers behind both forces—God and Satan—are activated by words spoken by humans.
As Copeland articulates it, ‘Fear activates Satan the way faith activates God.’” (Hank
Hanegraaff’s description of Faith Movement, 152)
Summary of Orthodox Teaching
God is independent, sovereign, omnipotent, and omniscient (just to name a few of His attributes).
“God does not need us or the rest of creation for anything…” (ESV Study Bible, 2512). He is
not limited by anything but His divine goodness and holiness. Nor is God required to act solely
on the words of humans.
Faith Movement Statements
Copeland: “God cannot do anything for you apart or separate from faith” because “faith is God’s
source of power.” (HH 96)
Myles Munroe: “I’m going to say it again! Prayer is man giving God authority, or God license,
to interfere in the affairs of man. In fact, God—I’m going to take a deep breath because some of
you religious people aren’t going to understand me—Are you ready?—God cannot do anything
in the earth without a human’s permission!” (HH 142)
Joel Osteen: “Scripture tells us that we are to ‘call the things that are not as if they already
were.’” (HH 101) (Romans 4:17 “As it is written: "I have made you a father of many
nations." [Abraham] is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed--the God who
gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.” –emphasis added)
Hagin: “It would help you get faith down in your sprit to say out loud: ‘Faith in my faith’..Keep
saying it until it registers on your heart…” (HH 104)
Scripture
DT 32:39
"See now that I myself am He! There is no god besides me. I put to death
and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my
hand.”
ISA 46:9
Remember the former things, those of long ago;
I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me.
ISA 46:10 I make known the end from the beginning,
from ancient times, what is still to come.
I say: My purpose will stand,
and I will do all that I please.
MT 19:23
Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man
to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go
through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." 25
When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, "Who then
can be saved?" 26 Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but
with God all things are possible."

Deliverance from Egypt? Because they had faith or because God did it?
Gideon’s victory? Because he had great faith or because God did it?
Words are the containers that carry the substance of faith. The power of words.
Hebrews 11:1--Is faith, as used in Hebrews 11:1, a substance or an assurance?
 Copeland: “Faith was the raw material substance that the Spirit of God used to form the
universe.” (HH 99)
 Orthodoxy: Faith is an assurance.
Hebrews 11:1
NIV: “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”
King James: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not
seen.”
Synonyms for substance—matter, stuff, essence. Which was the KJ’s portraying?
ESV: “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

Hebrews and the rest of the NT never uses pistis (faith) to mean a substance by which
things are made. (HH 100-101 and BLK study of the Greek)
Faith (pistis)
πίστις, εως, ἡ (1) active, as belief directed toward a person or thing confidence, faith,
trust, reliance on (MT 9.2); (2) absolutely, without an object; (a) as the essential Christian
religion (the) faith (CO 1.23); (b) as recognition and acceptance of Christian teaching faith (JA
2.17); (c) as a decision to be faithful and loyal to the Christian religion promise, pledge,
commitment (1T 5.12); (d) as a conviction that brings certainty faith, assurance (RO 14.22); (e)
as a Christian virtue, especially along with hope and love characterizing believers (1TH 1.3); (3)
passive; (a) of what brings trust and confidence from others faithfulness, fidelity, reliability (TI
2.10); (b) as what inspires confidence pledge, (means of) proof, guarantee (AC 17.31); (4)
objectively, as the content of what is believed doctrine, (the) faith (RO 1.5; JU3)1
Assurance/Substance (hypostasis)
ὑπόστασις, εως, ἡ as the objective aspect and underlying reality behind anything, with
the specific meaning derived from the context; (1) as an undertaking plan, project (2C 9.4); (2)
as God’s substantial nature real being, essence (HE 1.3); (3) as the objective reality that gives a
firm guarantee and basis for confidence or assurance substance, ground of hope, foundation (HE
3.14; 11.1)2

Mark 11:22-25 (NIV)
"Have faith in God," Jesus answered. 23 "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this
mountain, `Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes
that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you
ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25 And when you
stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in
heaven may forgive you your sins. "
Hagin: “For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be though
removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that
those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” “Notice two
more things about this 23rd verse: (1) He believes in his heart; (2) he believes in his words.
Another way to say this is: He has faith in his own faith…Having faith in your words is having
faith in your faith.” (This text is quoted from HH 104 who quotes it from Hagin’s Having Faith
in Your Faith; emphasis in original.)
Hank Hanegraaff: “Hagin and the other Faith teachers almost always point to this passage to
‘prove’ that Jesus taught His disciples to have faith in their faith so that whatsoever they believe
and say will come to pass. That notion, however, is utterly false. The context of the passage
makes it clear that we are to place our faith in God and His awesome power, rather than our own
frail human devices…Moreover, according to Jesus’ own words here, it is God, not the believer,
who brings about the end results. Thus Jesus says, “It will be done for you” (NIV), not “you will
do it;” “believe that you have received it” (NIV), not “believe that you have taken it.”
(HH pg,400, note 5)
Will we get anything we ask for as long as we believe it? (Mark 11:24)
Conditional upon God’s will—“Jesus made this promise on the recognized premise that petitions
must be in harmony with God’s will (cf. 14:36; Matt. 6:9-10; John 14:13-14; 15:7; 16:23-24; 1
John 5:14-15). This enables faith to receive the answers God gives. God is always ready to
respond to obedient believers’ prayers, and they can petition Him knowing that no situation or
difficulty is impossible for Him.”3
“Jesus also used this miracle to teach us a lesson on faith. The next morning, when the disciples
noticed the dead tree, Jesus said, “Have faith in God,” meaning, “Constantly be trusting God;
live in an attitude of dependence on Him.” In Jewish imagery, a mountain signifies something
strong and immovable, a problem that stands in the way (Zech. 4:7). We can move these
mountains only by trusting God.
Of course, this is not the only lesson Jesus ever gave on prayer; and we must be careful not to
isolate it from the rest of Scripture. Prayer must be in the will of God (1 John 5:14–15), and the
one praying must be abiding in the love of God (John 15:7–14). Prayer is not an emergency

measure that we turn to when we have a problem. Real prayer is a part of our constant
communion with God and worship of God.
Nor should we interpret Mark 11:24 to mean, “If you pray hard enough and really believe,
God is obligated to answer your prayers, no matter what you ask.” That kind of faith is not faith
in God; rather, it is nothing but faith in faith, or faith in feelings. True faith in God is based on
His Word (John 15:7; Rom. 10:17), and His Word reveals His will to us. It has well been said
that the purpose of prayer is not to get man’s will done in heaven, but to get God’s will done on
earth.”4
1JN 5:13-15
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that
you may know that you have eternal life. 14 This is the confidence we have in
approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if
we know that he hears us--whatever we ask--we know that we have what we asked
of him. (emphasis added)
Psalm 37:3-6
PS 37:3
Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
PS 37:4
Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
PS 37:5
Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this:
PS 37:6
He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn,
the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. (emphasis added)
Commands (imperative in the Hebrew): trust, do good, dwell, enjoy, delight, commit, trust
 Why doesn’t the psalmist say, “speak it and God will give you the desires of your heart”?
Or why not, “have greater faith in your words, greater faith in your faith”?
 Instead, he says to trust…in the Lord—not trust in your words; not trust in your faith
Promise: He will give you the desires of your heart, which if you are delighted in God, will be
the desires of God. So what are the desires of God? (See below—Health and Welfare)
Or as John 15:7 states, “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you
wish, and it will be given you. 8 This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit,
showing yourselves to be my disciples.” (emphasis added)
We can ask whatever we wish if God’s words remain in us. So what are the words of
God?

Promises of Health?
Is God’s desire for everyone to be healthy, free from suffering and without sickness? Does the
word of God promise these things? If so, then we can include them in the promise of Jesus in
John 15:7.
Summary of Faith Movement Teaching
When Jesus died on the cross he provided healing for every sickness and disease. The healing
has already occurred, it is up to people to claim it and live in it. CCCCXX
Faith Movement Statements
Copeland: “You have a covenant with Almighty God, and one of your covenant rights is the
right to a healthy body.” (HH 249)
Copeland: “The first step to spiritual maturity is to realize your position before God. You are a
child of God and a joint-heir with Jesus. Consequently, you are entitled to all the rights and
priveleges in the kingdom of God, and one of these rights is health and healing. You will never
fully realize or understand healing until you know beyond any doubt that…God want you
healed…Whether or not you accept that and purpose to walk in the reality of the truth is your
own decision to make.” (HH 250)
Hagin telling a woman why she won’t be healed; Hagin implies it is not because of God but
because of her faith. “[God] has done all He is ever going to do about it. Two thousand years
ago, he laid your sickness on Jesus and Jesus bore it for you. With his stripes ye were healed
way back yonder and you won’t accept it and you won’t believe it. You’re trying to get Him to
do what He has already done for you. But if you would just come to the place that you would
willingly and gladly, praise God, believe that in your heart, and start confessing that with your
mouth, yes he took my infirmities, yes he bore my sicknesses, I am healed, then the
manifestation would come. For it is with the heart that man believeth and with the mouth the
confession is made unto. Hallelujah...” (Ipod Message, “The God Kind of Faith 2” Posted

Hagin: “Jesus said, ‘Whoever shall say and not doubt in his heart but shall believe that those
things which he saith shall come to pass, he shall have whatever he saith.” (Ipod Message, “The
God Kind of Faith 3” posted 5/6/10)
Both Romans 10:9 and 1 Peter 2:24 are dealing with salvation, not physical sickness:
But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,"
that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth,
"Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you
will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is
with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone
who trusts in him will never be put to shame." (Romans 9:8-11)
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live
for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. 25 For you were like sheep
12
going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your
souls. (1 Peter 2:24-25)
Promises of Wealth?
Matthew 6:19-21 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy,
and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where
moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your
treasure is, there your heart will be also.
1 Timothy 6:6-11 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the
world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content
with that. 9 People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and
harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of
all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced
themselves with many griefs. 11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue
righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness… 17 Command those who are
rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain,
but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18
Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19
In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so
that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the
love of the Father is not in him. 16 For everything in the world--the cravings of sinful man, the
lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does--comes not from the Father but from
the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives
forever.
Hebrews 13:5-6
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God
has said,
"Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you."

So we say with confidence,
"The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?"
Should we avoid suffering? If all suffering and sickness evil?
Did the disciples avoid suffering?
Matthew 10: Jesus sends out the twelve disciples and instructs them to not take any
money, no extra clothes. He warns them of what they will experience—will be handed over to
authorities (both religious and secular); will be flogged; family members will betray family
members to their death; they’ll be hated; persecuted.
Jesus states, “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather,
be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for
a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. 30 And
13
even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don't be afraid; you are worth more than
many sparrows.
Later, verse 37, "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of
me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; 38 and anyone who
does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it,
and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”
Rarely (if ever?) do we hear the Faith Movement preaching that we are to take up our
cross and follow Jesus.
Philippians 1:29-30
For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer
for him, 30 since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still
have.
1 Peter1:6-7
In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all
kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes
even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor
when Jesus Christ is revealed.
1 Peter 2:18-25
Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and
considerate, but also to those who are harsh. 19 For it is commendable if a man bears up under the
pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. 20 But how is it to your credit if you
receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure
it, this is commendable before God. 21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you,
leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
22
"He committed no sin,
and no deceit was found in his mouth."
23
When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made
no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24 He himself bore our sins in
his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you
have been healed. 25 For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the
Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
1 Peter 4:15-19
If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a
meddler. 16 However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you
bear that name. 17 For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins
with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 And,
"If it is hard for the righteous to be saved,
what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?"
19
So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful
Creator and continue to do good.

Mark 9:28-29
After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, "Why couldn't we drive it out?"
29
He replied, "This kind can come out only by prayer. "
