Michael E. Cafferky, DBA, MDIV
Michael E. Cafferky, Professor of Business & Management has taught at Southern since the
Fall of 2003. Prior to coming to Southern Professor Cafferky served for over twenty years in the
healthcare industry in middle and senior management. In addition to serving in entry level
positions he has also served as a Marketing Director, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial
Officer and an interim Chief Executive Officer. His broad experience allows him to bring many
examples of management principles and practices into the classroom.
He earned a B.A. in Theology from Atlantic Union College, the M.Div. degree from
Andrews University Theological Seminary, an M.P.H. from Loma Linda University School of
Public Health, and a Doctor of Business Administration from Anderson University Falls School
of Business.
Dr. Cafferky teaches management courses in the School of Business including Principles of
Management, Business Strategy, Organizational Behavior, Leadership in Organizations,
Organizational Theory, Integrating Faith in Business and the course Ethical, Social & Legal
Environment of Business. He has a passion for integrating faith and learning in the classroom.
He enjoys talking with students outside the classroom.
Dr. Cafferky is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (2001-2011), a
member of the Academy of Management, and a member of the Christian Business Faculty
Association. For three years he served as an Examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National
Quality Award Program of the US Department of Commerce. In 2011 Dr. Cafferky received the
President’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship from Southern Adventist University. During the
Fall Semester of 2011 Dr. Cafferky was on sabbatical. As part of his experience he spent five weeks
at Cambridge University, Cambridge, England studying faith and business issues.
One of his hobbies is writing for publication. He is the author of hundreds of articles and
six books including the university textbook Management: A faith-based perspective. He loves to
talk with others who have a passion for writing.
Dr. Cafferky and his wife Marlene have two grown sons.
