LESSON: Computers / Internet
OBJECTIVE: The student will demonstrate knowledge and appropriate use of
hardware components, software programs, and their connections. The student
uses a variety of strategies to acquire information from electronic resources
(Internet), with appropriate supervision.
MATERIALS: 1. Computer with access to Internet. 2. Computer with MSWord or other word processing software and PowerPoint presentation software.
ACTIVITY: Students will complete the activity for each of the four centers.
Instructions for each center are included with the instruction sheets.
ASSESSMENT: Students will complete worksheets for each activity and turn
them in when all four centers are completed.

Center 1: Computer Software
OBJECTIVE: The student applies computer technology to specific tasks. Identify and describe
the roles of computer technology.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. On your worksheet you will find a list of software applications. Go through the list and
find a definition for each part on the Internet or another resource, (Use your favorite
search engine if you choose to use the Internet.)
2. After you find all definitions, go to your computer and create the next documents:
a. Write a word processing document explaining the experience through the
activity. How long did it take you to complete the activity? Which resources did
you used? What part of the activity did you like the best?
b. In your Drawing program, make a picture and insert it in a word processing
document. Around your picture, write a story about the picture. Your story should
be at least half page long without counting the picture space.
c. Create a spreadsheet with a budget for a month. If you don’t have your own
budget, ask someone who does or research it.
d. Create a presentation about what you have learned in this activity. Make sure
you have a minimum of 8 slides. Include Title slide and Resource slide .
e. Create a database that includes every student in this class. Include the next
fields: First Name, Last Name, City, State.

OBJECTIVES: The student develops computer systems using the appropriate resources.
Describe the properties and characteristics of computer-related hardware and software.

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. On your worksheet you will find a list of computer parts. Got through the list and
find a definition for each part on the Internet. (Use your favorite search engine.)
2. After you find all the definitions, go to the special computer workstation and
match the parts on your list to each computer component within the computer
case and label them with the appropriate number.

Center 4: How Computers Work
OBJECTIVE: The student describes how a systems model can be used to describe
computer hardware and software. Identify the inputs, processes, outputs, and feedback
associated with computer applications.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Go to the computer and search in your favorite search engine for “How
Computers Work.” Look at least at a couple of web sites but not more than five.
2. Research the components of the computer listed below and create a PowerPoint
with the information. Put all your information into a PowerPoint presentation; be
sure to include pictures, examples, and diagrams in a way that someone who
doesn’t know anything about computers can understand. Find what they do,
where they are located, what they look like (use clip art), and problems that can
occur with them.








