Session ID:GS-186 Session Title: Train and support students with Moodle, Breeze, and More! Session Abstract: Come learn ways that technology tools can help us work more efficiently and effectively. Presenters demonstrate ways that technology can be used to train and support international and study abroad students. Several tools will be highlighted, including Macromedia Breeze and Moodle. Session Description: 1.Training and supporting students in international education is labor intensive. Technology can help replace some of the face to face time with students and enable students to help themselves better. The use of targeted distance learning can also potentially increase learning outcomes by allowing for students to reflect upon the material and access the material as they are ready. There are two tools that staff can use with relative ease to reduce the meeting time with students yet at the same time increase the quality of service that their office provides. The first tool is Macromedia Breeze Presenter which allows creating narrated PowerPoint presentations delivered over the Internet. The second tool is Moodle course management system which enables administrators to set up a virtual support environment for international students while they are studying in the United States or for students studying around the world. The benefits provided by both tools are available to students 24 hours a day and prior to their departure for their study location. Additional tools that will be discussed include: pre-workshop online surveys (www.studentvoice.com), Skype, Podcasts, RSS Feeds, and others. These will be presented briefly with handouts available to help participants get started on using the resources. 2. Outcomes Knowledge of Breeze, Moodle, and other technologies and how to apply these in their offices 3. Format Presentation of the technologies with time for questions throughout, as well as separate question and answer session at the end 4. Q/A See above. We are experienced presenters and will leave time at the end for participants to ask questions. 5. For those outside U.S. The technologies we offer have been used outside the U.S., are accessbible outside the U.S. and can help staff and faculty no matter their location in the world.
