Special attention will be paid to the study of white collar crimes pertaining to corporate crime, occupational crime, governmental and political crime, enterprise/organized crime; the prevention/control mechanisms and societal responses to these crimes. COURSE COMPETENCIES: During this course, the student will be expected to: 1. Define white collar crime and differentiate white collar crimes from other types of crime. 2. Identify various examples of white collar crime, deceptive practices and fraud. 2.1 List and recognize examples of corporate crime. 2.2 List and recognize examples of occupational crime. 2.3 List and recognize examples of governmental crime including state crime and political crime. 2.4 List and recognize examples of enterprise or organized crime. 2.5 List and recognize examples of technology-related crime. 3 Explain the effects of white collar crime. 3.1 Describe the economic effects in both macro and micro perspectives. 3.2 Identify potential environmental effects of white collar crime. 3.3 Recognize the human impact of white collar crime both directly to the victim and indirectly to society. 4 Describe legal responses and social controls of white collar crime. 4.1 Provide examples of common methods to police and regulate against white collar crimes. 4.2 Engage in case studies that explore the prosecution, defense, and adjudication of white collar crime.
