Sensory Integration:
One Day: This workshop provides in-depth principles of sensory integration theory and treatment.
Participants will learn to identify the children with sensory integrative disorders also termed Sensory
Processing Disorders (SPD).
 It provides practitioners with evidence-based information on the prevalence and components of
sensory processing problems.
 Reviews the taxonomy for classification of Sensory Processing Disorders
 Gives participants concrete methods by which to identify which disorders are present and hindering
function and outlines concrete treatment strategies to treat the underlying cause(s).
 Participants will learn how to manage children with multiple sensory disorders, how to prioritize
their interventions, and maximize their success.
 Can be customized for any specific patient population or environment.
Two Day: More in-depth workshops on Sensory Integration are available and can be customized to your
particular setting and needs. For more information contact STAR Services.
Is It Sensory or Is It Behavior?
Children often demonstrate confusing and challenging behaviors. Prior to implementing intervention
strategies it is important to understand the issues that contribute to difficult behaviors. Many behaviors
result from the child‘s effort to meet a specific need, as a response to environmental demands and stimuli,
or as a learned behavior. Therapists must be able to understand these behaviors; identify the underlying
cause; develop intervention strategies to alter the behaviors; remediate the underlying problems, and
implement these programs in multiple environments.
One Day: Level 1-This workshop is designed for occupational, physical and speech therapists,
psychologists, other professionals and parents.
 Speakers guide participants through the Chaos that is Behavior: the underlying cause, and the
factors that keep the behaviors alive.
 Introduce participants to a concrete methodology to guide clinical observations.
 Begin to analyze why children behave the way they do and sort out sensory-based problems from
other causes.
 Introduce participants to the common pitfalls that keep negative behaviors alive.
 Introduce positive behavioral strategies to promote desirable behaviors.
Two Day: Level 1 –
 This workshop will include the information in the One Day Level 1 workshop.
 A variety of teaching methods are utilized to teach participants how to analyze why children
behave the way they do; sort out sensory-based problems from other causes, and design
intervention strategies to address the underlying problems.
 Sensory-based behaviors will be presented in detail with specific methodology to tease out
specific underlying sensory disorder and focused intervention strategies.
 The participants will begin to untangle sensory behaviors from learned behaviors.
 A concrete methodology will be provided to guide the process and objectify clinical observations.
 Applicable to all school and clinic environments.
Three Day: Level 2- Advanced Problem Solving

Includes advanced problem solving and intervention strategies. Includes both level 1 and 2
training.

A variety of teaching methods are utilized to teach participants to identify and correct common
pitfalls that promote negative behaviors.

Utilizing an integrated approach participants will learn positive behavioral and sensory strategies
to alter and modify behaviors.

Applicable to all school and clinic settings.

 The speakers skillfully use a layering system to lead participants to a deep understanding of the
complex inter-relationship between sensory integrative, communicative, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental problems seen in individuals with autism spectrum disorder and pervasive
developmental delays.
 Participants develop the skills of problem identification and program planning as they pertain to
their work setting.
 Specific intervention strategies will clearly be identified for use at school, home and clinic to
improve the functional performance of children with sensory modulation, tactile discrimination,
and motor planning disorders.
One Day:
 Introduction to Autism and Pervasive Developmental Delay - This can be tailored to the needs of
specific groups: parents, teachers, paraprofessionals, and school therapists.
Other:
 School or clinic based consultations can also be arranged in conjunction with the above
workshops or separately.
 Three day workshops are also available, and will be customized to the needs of the sponsor.
Integrating NDT and SI: Intervention Strategies
A Hands-on Approach to Maximize Your Effectiveness.
These workshops are designed for occupational, physical, and speech pathologists. They provide handson experience and practical applications to help break down the barriers between NDT and SI. Learn how
to combine techniques to achieve results. While case studies and audiovisuals encompass pediatrics,
adult therapists have found this workshop very helpful. These hands-on workshops will help to expand
your treatment options to obtain effective functional results through a holistic, integrated NDT/SI treatment
approach! These dynamic treatment courses address strategies for children with Attention Deficit
Disorder (ADD), sensory integrative disorders, learning disabilities, developmental delays, and a variety of
neurological impairments including cerebral palsy.
Three day:
 This workshop provides in-depth principles of sensory integration and neuro-developmental
treatment and provides a solid foundation for utilizing a dynamic, focused and integrated approach
for evaluating and treating children with sensory and neurological problems.
 An integrated evaluation system is presented to give participants concrete methodologies for
identifying neurological and sensory problems hindering function.
 Participants learn how to integrate NDT and SI treatments for results-oriented interventions for a
variety of patient populations.
 Videos, case studies, and facilitation labs using a variety of equipment will help you identify clients’
base problems and then focus on dynamic, results-oriented treatment strategies.
 Participants get extensive hands-on opportunities to learn new sensory and motor control based
treatment techniques.
 Frequently encountered biomechanical, musculoskeletal, and sensory blocks to function will be
identified through the use of audio visual aids and focused treatment strategies are included in
facilitation labs.
 Functional carryover is emphasized with experientials and training in the specialty areas of
improving trunk control, hand and foot function, as well as applying techniques into multiple work
settings.
Two Day:
 This workshop introduces in-depth basic principles of sensory integration and neurodevelopmental treatment and provides a solid foundation for utilizing a dynamic, focused and
integrated approach for evaluating and treating children with sensory and neurological problems.
