General requirements: An Honours Degree, with the relevant subject as a major. Ability to work with adult learners. Willingness to undergo training on various aspects of tutoring. Teaching/tutoring experience will be an advantage. Recommendation Own transport is recommended Duties Facilitation of Learning: As subject specialists, tutors help learners in a variety of ways to understand their course material to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary in their fields of study. The tutor’s assistance is determined and confined by the mode of delivery, namely, the ODL study package. The tutor’s role in face-to-face tutorials is therefore more facilitative than didactic, and entails encouraging dialogue between themselves and students, among students, and between students and the academic and administrative structures of UNISA. Counselling and advising - students: The counselling role of the tutor is concerned with the identification of the general problems of students, assisting them to find ways of solving these problems, and to develop the necessary learning skills which will make them self-reliant or autonomous learners. Students requiring specialised/professional counselling support shall be referred to the Bureau for Student Counselling and Career Development (BSCCD). Administrative Role: The administrative role of the tutor is critical in the quality assurance, efficient delivery and management of tutorial services. This includes liaison with the Learning Centre staff, Tutorial Services Administration and Academic departments.
