Khawaja Muhammad Asif Federal Minister for Water & Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif born August 9, 1949 in (Sialkot), is a lawmaker and politician Currently serving as the Federal Minister for Water and Power. Khawaja Muhammad Asif previously served as the Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, with additional portfolio of Sports Ministry in the PM Yousaf Raza Gillani’s cabinet. He is renowned for his oratory skills and denunciation of military intervention in the political domain. Before getting into politics, Khawaja Asif lived in the UAE for many years, and worked in the Bank of Credit and Commerce International. He is affiliated with the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) political party. He holds the distinction of being the first ethnic Baloch army general in the Pakistani military. Earlier, he served as the Corps Commander of Quetta before retiring prematurely to take up the post of governor. During his army career, Baloch also commanded an infantry brigade in Muzaffarabad and remained a General Officer Commander (GOC) at Murree, while commanding troops positioned along the Line of Control in Azad Kashmir.[3] He has spoken extensively on political affairs and issues concerning the Balochistan conflict in the province of Balochistan where he originally hails from, and has been a long-standing advocate and campaigner for human rights across the country. In August 2011, he was selected by his party chief Nawaz Sharif as the assistant secretaries-general of the PML-N. He was elected as member of national assembly from NA-271 (Kharan-cum-Panjgur).
