Dear Sir/Madam:
Warmest greetings from the Philippine Society for the Study of Nature – Cordillera Administrative
Region (PSSN-CAR) Chapter.
We are pleased to inform you that, since its last conference in 2006, the PSSN-CAR will hold its 5th
Annual Scientific Conference with the theme “Strategies Towards the Conservation and
Restoration of Natural Resources” at the Benguet State University in La Trinidad, Benguet on
November 19 and 20, 2011. The two-day activity will be highlighted by a keynote lecture of Dr.
Edgardo Gomez, plenary talks, competition for Best Paper and Best Poster, paper and poster
presentations, and a business meeting of the PSSN-CAR that will tackle issues concerning the
chapter as well as the election of the new set of officers and the Board of Directors. The conference
aims to bring together scientists, educators, environmental managers and students from all over the
CAR and nearby regions to address the conference’s 3-fold objectives:



To share research and experiences in the conservation and restoration of various
ecosystems
To present, by way of the keynote and plenary sessions, strategies and efforts that have
been effective and that can be adopted in other areas, and
To present current issues that concern the protection, conservation, and the restoration of
species, habitats and ecosystems within the CAR and nearby regions
This year’s conference will have 4 parallel sessions that highlight conservation and restoration in 4
distinct ecosystem groups, namely:
1. Agricultural Ecosystem
2. Terrestrial Ecosystem (forest, mountain and grassland systems)
3. Inland Aquatic Ecosystems (lake, river, pond, as well as man-made freshwater systems)
4. Marine and Coastal Ecosystems (coral reef, seagrass, seaweed and mangrove systems)
Presenters (for both oral and poster submissions) are encouraged to submit research abstracts that
are within the scope of any of the 4 ecosystem groups not later than 15 October 2011 for regular
entries and October 22 for competing papers (with full paper). Papers must not have been
presented in any national and international conferences. For more information, please find attached
brochure and the abstract submission form for the conference.
Your institution’s dynamic involvement in this year’s convention will extensively contribute to the aim
of our society in the conservation and protection of our environment. The PSSN-CAR family will be
honored and privileged with your presence that would spell the success of the said conference.
Thank you very much and more power! God Bless!
Respectfully yours,
JACQUELINE LAMPAC, PhD
President, PSSN-CAR 2010-2011
