Objectives
1. Clarify the concept of Personal Productivity
2. Reinforce the concepts of productive, semi-productive and nonproductive time
3. Encourage students to estimate how much of each of the Life
Phases will be spent as productive, semi-productive and nonproductive
Personal productivity is a measure of how efficiently you manage the time available to you. Much like a business,
you should analyze and manage your time to increase the potential for success. The time available to you can be
categorized as productive, semi-productive and non-productive.
Productive time is the time you are paid for the work you perform. Semi-productive time is the time spent
performing activities that improve your chances of earning money. Non-productive time is spent not earning
money or improving your chances of earning money.
Complete Table A below showing how you currently spend your time and how you plan to spend your time during
the work and retirement phases of your life. You can use the Typical Day Example in Lesson 2.2 – The Importance
of Time to adjust the values until you have accounted for 24 hours in a typical day in your developing, work and
retirement phases of life.
Be sure to calculate the percentage of productive, semi-productive and non-productive time for all three life
phases and show the results in the appropriate cells in the table. Show your calculations in the space provided
below the table.
