1. Diomedes blamed Agamemnon for the
quarrel with Achilles.
1. Agamemnon offered an apology to
Achilles through Ajax and Odysseus.

Zeus will not let Troy be taken.
2. The Greeks get some sleep so they are
ready to fight at dawn.
1. During the night, a Trojan spy got into
the Greek camp. The spy, Dolan, was
caught by Odysseus and Diomedes.
1. Dolan gave them the password and the
plan for attack. Odysseus and Diomedes
snuck into the Trojan camp and killed 17
Trojans and stole horses. Apollo was
furious.
1. The Greeks swept eagerly over the
plain toward the city walls, so Zeus
promised to give the Trojans strength.
1. Paris wounded Machaon, Achilles
friend, and the Trojans attacked the beach
where the Greeks were camped.
1. Zeus sent a warning that he was on the
Greek’s side, and the Trojans gained a
foothold.
1. Hector and his men brought panic to the
Greeks as they fled between their curving
ships.
1. Trojan troops tried to attack the ships.
1. Poseidon interfered with wind and a
storm. He also put courage in the Greek
hearts. Hera distracted Zeus, and he slept.
1. Zeus was furious when he awoke and
gave the Trojans the upper hand.
1. Patroclus dressed in Achilles’ armor
and took his horse to throw off the Trojans
so the Greeks could recover.

2. Patroclus approached the Trojan walls
three times.

Patroclus is dead! Achilles wanted to
find Hector and kill him.
Thetis went to the god Hepaestus to get
armor as not mortal ever had. Achilles could
not fight until Thetis returned with the
armor but must show himself to the Trojans.
While Achilles’ armor was being made,
Patroclus was buried, and Achilles
shouted, “HECTOR!” so all the Trojans
could see him.
Achilles will make peace with Agamemnon
and go to war.
