1 kilogram is the weight of a bag of sugar . . . .

. . . . this is also just over 2 pounds in weight
(2.2 pounds is a rough weight).
An approximate conversion we can use is
1 kilogram = 2.2 pounds
or 1 kilogram = 2 pounds 3 ounces.
To change from KILOGRAMS TO POUNDS we can multiply by
2.2
So is we have a 2kg bag of flour and we want to know what this is in
pounds we can work it out like this:

Do these look about right? You can estimate the answer by doubling
and adding a bit and you can check the answers on your calculator.
Now we need to think about what these weights mean in pounds and
ounces
2.2 pounds DOES NOT mean 2 pounds 2 ounces
0.2 pounds is 2/10 (2 tenths) of a pound
First let us work out what 0.1 (1/10 or 1 tenth) of a pound is worth in
ounces.
In 1 pound there are 16 ounces
So in 0.1 pound there are 16 ounces  10
0.1 pound = 1.6 ounces
0.1 pound = roughly 1½ ounces
Now you know this you can work out
0.2 pounds = 1.6 x 2 = 3.2 ounces (or roughly 3oz)
0.5 pounds = 1.6 x 5 = 8 ounces
0.8 pounds = 1.6 x 8 = 12.8 ounces (or roughly 13oz)

We can also use these conversions to compare prices.
If we know that Cheddar cheese costs £2.92 per pound
then we can work out the cost in kilograms.
£2.92 x 2.2 = £6.424
we would round this off to the nearest penny = £6.42 per kilo
If we know that Smoked bacon costs £8.47 per kilo
then we can work out the cost in pounds.
£8.47  2.2 = £3.85 per pound
